What are some ways to save on utilities?

My comments assume you don't have really good windows in your apartment...

1. Make sure the lights you're going to have on the most are LEDs. Do NOT throw away any non-LEDs that were already in the apartment. Wrap them in paper and put them in a box. When you move out put the old lights back and take your LEDs.
2. Space heater is better if you're only heating one room (or if multiple people live in a place, one heater per room). Only try all space heater heat it if it's not below freezing temps. It's not worth the risk of water pipes freezing/breaking when it's that cold. I guess if it's below freezing you could have the main heat on low (to keep the indoor temp above freezing) and still use a space heater. Some apartments don't give you the option (or need) of using your own heat because you can't turn off the building heat anyhow. Or you can't even access a gas heater cause it's locked behind a door. Usually if you can't access the cost is a flat rate included in your rent tho.
3. In the winter, if it's below like 60 degrees, drapes on windows are a must. You close them just when the sun goes down or before, not late at night. You can even use a blanket pinned to the wall over a window. In the summer there's a similar issue... the more sunlight that comes in the more AC you need. This is true even in high humidity places. You can block out sun light during the day to cut AC costs. Even if you only block some windows it will save more than none. You'd have to cover the windows early in the day for best results.
4. If you increase humidity in a place it feels warmer so you need less heat. otoh the typical cheap humidifier has to be cleaned every day or it's a health hazard & most people don't want to clean that much.
5. Yeah, using a typical stove light all night will waste power vs. a night light. if you really want to save just have a battery powered lantern you carry around. If you're using a space heater you won't be venturing out of your bedroom in the middle of the night in the winter anyhow. ha ha.
6. Make a deal with a neighbor to pay them a little cash so you can use their Internet.

I've saved by keeping the heat low and using an electric blanket in bed and a space heater for temporary electric heat in the bath.
The biggest savings comes when you can live near work and grocery store and forego having a car.

Get energy efficient bulbs.
Wash laundry and shower at night.
Keep your ac between 69-71

Buy sweatshirts and blankets and don't turn your heat on at all in the winter. Also, turn off all the lights when you're not using them.

Gas > Electric. Gas is cheaper than electric. So use central heating system. Also, led bulbs will save you money in the long run.
Turn off all electronics that aren't in use.
Be aware of how much water you're using so you don't use excessive.

Cut down on the air-conditioning and heating bill, get rid of your expensive cable TV because they’re always expensive, don’t run the water that much

Space heaters are expensive to operate.

Try to find an apartment which provides heat. Older buildings usually have steam heat that covers all units without a extra charge to the renter.

Don’t leave the lights on if not in the room and shorten shower time if you pay for water ac should be set to 76 stream tv
