Is it elderly abuse if my older half brother keeps screaming in our grandmother's face because she won't eat?

I deal with that situation all the time. And let me just tell you it really all depends on how severe her dementia is. What is she has the space yet I doubt that. Only a doctor will be able to read determine that. The thing is that with dementia patients that could be highly stubborn and depending on their personality type and their mentality they may be more aggressive than other people. Sadly my own grandmother is one of those people. But your brother should not be yelling at her face. That can definitely be considered abuse. Your family in a sense does sound toxic. When you have toxic families they think that kind of stuff is no more and that's not normal. To be honest the police is not really going to do much of anything. That doesn't mean that it can't be reported. But unless she goes into a place where somebody is going to take care of her, there's not much that can be done. Because how people are going to look at it as long as she's not having bruises, Cuts, or any other form and sign of neglect, they just going to say that everybody's just frustrated and somebody's going to have to eventually get counseling. Is very sad because a lot of people don't do much. But the only advice I can sit to tell you is that your brother needs some really stop being a hypocrite, and then complain about no help. But one thing I do understand from his part is that when you're so used to doing everything yourself you're not expecting anybody else to help you. It can be very stressful by the way. I think what you need to do is have your brothers really sit down and you need to have a serious discussion with him and ask him what it is that he really need of you as well he needs to listen to what you need of him. You both are siblings and you got to work together to help take care of her. Because being a caregiver is not an easy job to do.

Please don’t let him do this any more. Victimizing his grandmother is wrong. If he can’t handle the stress and responsibility he shouldn’t be doing it. <3
