Do You Live A More Materialistic Lifestyle Or Prefer The Simple Life?

Wow, this is actually a really hard question. We live in a material world and I do like material things, but I wouldn't say I am hung up on them. Actually, given my history, I can prove I am not excessively materialistic. I value character over materialism, however, I do pay attention to success and achievement. Not because I want those things from a woman, but it tells me something about her education, work ethic and modes of success.
On the other hand, say if a girl has a hundred pairs of shoes, that may indicate to me she is a bit superficial. And I find beauty in material things. For instance, I am really into cars. I don't have 15 cars sitting on blocks or anything, I have one car. But I see them as works of art and I admire the beauty and engineering and problem solving that went into making them. They are a source of joy and endless fascination, but I wouldn't go in to debt or anything or try to get something out of my reasonable price range.
I value you character more in a woman and I don't expect material things from her. But I don't want someone broke and in debt (especially in debt) and I don't want somebody wanting me because of the material support I can provide. But I don't mind being a provider. I don't want someone who requires I shower them with gifts, but I am happy to use materials to put a smile on my person's face. I do like to have nice things and to be able to afford nice things, but I am not obsessed with things.
I think all adults should be able to reasonably take care of themselves materially and be mature about money.
It seems that you value simplicity and I concur, though material still has to be there to some degree.

Would you go out with a man who is flat broke and has no ambition for the future if he was just super nice?

I'm somewhere in the middle.I don't have an expensive house or car, no boats or planes, no overly expensive hobbies. My "jewelry" collection consists of a smart watch, a Star Wars watch, and a necklace in the shape of a 45-RPM record adapter - but my job (an Audio/Video Integrator) means that I work with a lot of technology, and I have a lot of it at home, both for my own enjoyment and as a test bed for testing and learning about new items that I might need to know about for my customers. I can write off much of this as part of my business, but I still have it.

I also have a large music collection, but, again, I've been a mobile DJ for 35 years, and it's a part of that side business. I also have DJ gear: big speakers, lights, tables, etc. for that job, so there's a pile of gear in the garage.

Does that make me materialistic? Perhaps, and I suppose it would depend on who is making that call. Some would see rooms full of audio, video, and computer gear and say that I was, and some, knowing that this is how I earned my living, would not.

No! I def look at the more simple pleasures in life. I DO like clothes shopping, but overall I am not a materialistic person! I have no expensive jewelry, no fancy Mac Book Pro, and my Jeep is a 1995 model! Granted, my dad and I replaced everything steering, suspension, brakes, interior, and I built the new engine, but I could have gotten a brand new one if I’d have asked for it, bud I didn’t want my parents to spend 40k on a Jeep that would be worth 20-30 by now, and my Jeep is like NEW anyway, but cost less than $15k! Plus, so many kids have new Jeep’s at my school, but I’m the only one w/ a 26yo classic, especially one in better than showroom condition. That’s how I live my life... as frugally as possible. Sure, I may buy a new top at the mall, but I get the REST of the outfit at thrift stores! I LOVE thrifting, many people my age do. I guess we look at the bleak prospects for our future, and being thrifty seems to just make sense!

Im simple unless its something i really want. Like i want to build a house but it’ll be a nice elegant yet simple 3 bed 2 bath 2 car garage. Still its gonna cost $280k+ to build it. I always want a simple yet elegant lake/Garden wedding. However, its gonna cost around $15k with the tent and food and everything. I always wanted to go to Vegas and its not expensive like many think. But i went wild shopping there and spent over $2k on just shopping in 2 days. So yea im simple but im gonna make sure its done right and spend whatever is required

For example: can a billion of dollars make me a second miss brains muffins? NO!

Money is just a way to work with people, it's very important so we be able to live a healthy lifestyle but it's not everything...

Personally: family comes 1st and if i was married than all the money that i earn and have will be for the sake of my wife and kids...

Money can never be important than a person's life and it's because the greed of the majority of the people today, the world is becoming a dark place where death can occur and no one cares, they might abolish a whole nation just to get the profits from it... etc

Nothing like not starving by having the money to spend on healthy meals.
Some hobbies are also expensive. I like shooting, going to beaches, traveling, bowling, shopping, absorbing drugs and all that exciting stuff. I'm not into sitting around, reading books or fishing.

I have a few hobbies however, that are cheap: Massages, cuddling and sex 😁😁😁those require a girlfriend however ☹ (or a prostitute, which converts it to an expensive hobby)

A little bit of both. When it comes to shoes, computer, internet, phone and kitchen knives! Am taking the best quality i can afford and one of my cheapest knives i have for example it costs about 500$. On the other hand! I buy seeds and garden tools to plant my own veggies and fruits, i can do some wood work, i have my own tools to fix the car, fix electricity and I live on the country side.

I live a pretty simple life. I'm disdainful of materialism, but that doesn't mean that I don't buy stuff. I just bought a nice watch for $30 because my last one wore out many years ago and I found myself missing having one. It's a hassle looking at your phone to get the time.
So, of course I buy stuff. I own stuff to make life enjoyable and cozy. But I'm not into conspicuous consumerism at all.

It’s a bit complicated. I have lived simply most of my life but now I have a lot of money. I still live simply but I also spend far more than most people. When I fly, I fly economy but with my income I could easily fly first class. I have also been looking at what a private charter would cost recently, that would be a splurge but affordable. I won’t be doing it however. So economy even on ten hour flights as I travel the world. I generally buy used luxury cars but pay in cash. I don’t stay at the best hotels, just the very modest ones (I even think Holiday Inn is a splurge). And in have millions. Go figure.

Actually, we are in the midst of going from A to B icw a kitchen remodeling. Wife figures"as long as the kitchen is mess, lets mess up some other things. Problem is, there is only x-amount of spare space available into which to even MOVE those messes. "Worse before it gets better" might apply here.

I agree to an extent Elisabeth, but I do think I would be more blessed if I had a private indoor pool that I could swim lengths in every morning while watching the sun rise. Not saying that you NEED possessions or money to be happy, but sometimes it does provide a little comfort. I’d also love a solid gold dildo.
