Did you guys ever truly learn something from your language classes in school?

Absolutely. It takes time and you need to practice and put the effort in. You'll be amazed how much will stick without you realising it. I've been able to have conversations in German years after leaving school just from stuff I remembered, and I wasn't any good at it at the time lol.

I took French for 5 years and was fairly conversant for buying things in a store but never good at ordinary conversational French as I was in Quebec. The French spoken there is 17th - 18th Century Normandy French so native French speakers have difficulty conversing easily with our Frogs.

I took Spanish in high school but then got removed cause I'm a native Spanish speaker I was then moved to chinese class but then my counselor moved my schedule again to Latin and once again was changed and placed me in German class I got to say it was the greatest thing to me 😂😂 well I do know German but after 5 or 6 years of not being in a German class I've learned second hand German from german American coworkers I can cuss in German and no one will understand what did I said 😂

One hour a week learning phrases won't teach you anything. It takes the average English speaker 200 hours to reach a decent level in easy languages like French or Spanish. This massively increases with the harder ones like chinese.

I took a year of French in school and didn't learn a damn thing. By the end of the year we hadn't even made it to page 30 in our books because the teacher sucked. Needless to say that was the biggest waste of my time.

Nope, I took German at school for about 8 years and I didn't learn anything.

I wouldn't really think it matters there's a lot of stuff in school that didn't really stick and that's just what happens to people everybody has that one thing I've been sticking High School don't make a big deal out of it like I do

I've taken 2 years of Spanish, and has helped me a LOT!

Lol I was in general classes in school so I never took languages heck I couldn't even get them, classes LMAO

I took Spanish can understand some of it but can't pronounce words that involve rolling your R words.

Not speaking practicals nut only grammar..

I took 4 years of Latin.

I believe it gave me a greater awareness of the nuances of English.
