Do you still do your own oil changes?

- I’ve always changed my own oil. I’ve never paid someone to do it for me. What’s the point? You have to make an appointment, drive 20 minutes wasting gas, stand around in line for a while, leave your car for several hours, have a friend drive you home, then go back later, pay way more than the materials cost, etc. Or you can pick up a filter and some oil on sale when it is convenient in like 3 minutes while you are out doing something else, and then walk into your garage grab an oil filter wrench, a socket wrench, and an oil pan and be done in about 5 minutes. Time is money, and paying someone to waste your time and money is just plain stupid. Is this still revelant?
- I do my own oil change, brakes, tune ups, exhaust replacement, starters, and alternators. Is this still revelant?
I haven't done an exhaust since my wife's 1991 Country Squire., They are stainless steel and last forever. No more tuneups either.
I've been working on my cars since I was in High School. As long as I'm able to do it and save money, I'll keep doing it. I've got 6 cars in my family. I maintain all of them.

I guess you can say that. I have my work van, my pickup, my wife's car, my son's car and my daughter's 2 cars. 3 subarus, a chevy, dodge and a ford.
jut nosy. I just bought a F-150. Well it was over a year ago but it's been sitting in my garage for most of the year.
No, I have been unemployed for the last year and I haven't been driving it. It has less than 5K.
I teach at a local college and won't get called back until next September. I am collecting unemployment so there is that. I would rather be in the classroom to be honest.
I hear ya. I'm an essential business and last march , April and may I had to close because my customers were so scared they didn't want me in their homes.
I hope things are better. There should be some pent up demand. You might be so busy you won't know what to do.
I am so busy right now that I'm working 12 hours a day seven days a week. The problem is that the material prices are going through the roof and a lot is not available. I can't get wire, meter pans, electric panels. I've got tons of work but I can't do 25% of the jobs because I can't get materials for it
Yes. I have seen prices of all building material go crazy. It's like 50 bucks for a sheet of plywood.

- You love your car, you spend extra on it to keep it in tip top shape. Guys who are not auto mechanics and are paid 12 bucks an hour see your car as one more job, not a matter of pride.
It's worth it to do it yourself. I get a kick out of it and I check my engine compartment for fluid levels and leaks and squeeze all the hoses to make sure they don't need replacing.
It's the top thing you can do to make your engine last forever. Clean oil!Is this still revelant? - "Still"? hahaha.
Uh... no. I'm terrible at fixing things, anything mechanical. And I'm a bit of a germaphobe and don't like being greasy, especially. It's always been worth it to me to take it to a shop and have them do a once-over of the car.
But I think it's very cool/great if a guy does this on his car. Men should try and retain these real life, practical skills, and not just outsource everything like we do so often nowadays. Is this still revelant?Ah, I see you're only upvoting those who said yes. You should start a group called The Oilers and y'all can talk shop together in your overalls.
Well here's another reason for me not to: my high-rise building doesn't allow oil changes conducted in the garage. They'd have a hissy fit if one drop of oil got on the concrete.lololol. You're welcome 🙇♀️ Can't help noticing things like this. (Although I suppose I could help writing it hee hee.)

Well thank you for the offer; but I pulled something in my neck this morning so I think my going under a car days are not in the cards right now. And I just did my nails last night (teal) so I'd better pass.
Perhaps you can teach me how to properly jack my car up to change a flat tire. Cause I nearly took off my foot the last time I changed a tire and the car came narrowly crashing down on me. (I ain't so good with mechanical situations.)
I'll make you a drink while you change it for me. What's your pleasure? I'm very good with a cocktail shaker.I just had surgery and I am homebound for a few weeks. Changing a tire with today's cars is an iffy proposition. Thee carmakers give you a cheap little jack that had a small base that is wobbly in the best conditions. I keep a full sized jack in my truck.

48- Sure... I have 3 cars to deal with, but since my wife's car is only a year old, we let the dealer do that for free (up to the 2yr/25,000mi point).
I change my oil, do my own brakes and other things on a car. The older I get though, the less I care to get on the ground and deal with things in an engine bay where I'm bending over for a while. I see a day in the future, where I'll let someone else do those little things for me (probably my son).ReactLike

- Nope, I simply let garage do it, I get a free service pack and it includes fluid changes.
can see the point of doing it myself when it’s free.ReactLike

- Yes. I learnt a lot from dad when a teenager. Watching dad helping him with his car. I liked going to the scrap yard trying to find a part he needed.
So now specially when the lockdown was on I played with the car.ReactLike

- Yes. But I’m getting really burnt on the cost of oil. $45.00 for a oil change myself $38 for a gallon of oil and $7.00 for a filter. I miss the days when you could get a case of oil for $40 dollars.React
