When you move, do you rent a do-it-yourself moving van?

A - I have never moved from where I grew up.

B - When I move I ALWAYS move my own stuff, either by myself or with family/friends/coworkers; but I HAVE NEVER RENTED a do-it-yourself moving van.

C - When I move I ALWAYS move my own stuff, either by myself or with family/friends/coworkers; and I SOMETIMES RENT a do-it-yourself moving van.

D - When I move I ALWAYS move my own stuff, either by myself or with family/friends/coworkers; and I USUALLY RENT a do-it-yourself moving van.

i rented a van to move and paid dudes to load and unload. if I have to do that again, and I don't even want to thinka bout it. it will be a different truck or pay someone.

I don't have that much stuff. Plus, you don't have to worry about to moving company stealing your stuff.

So because you usually have to pay for the miles you add to the moving van’s odometer, do you calculate whether it’s better financially to rent a larger van rather than having to do more trips between the old & new places?

I go by the U-Haul's recommendation. I pick the biggest one I need to haul it in one trip.

I've never owned enough stuff to justify getting a moving trip. When I was transitioning out of the military, I moved to an apartment 30 minutes away from base. Took me 2 car trips to move my stuff, which was still cheaper than a moving truck. When I moved back from that apartment to my home state, I was able to pack everything in my car in one go, including my cats.
