"I'm very fond of you"

what does it means when a guy tells you this. we were sort of having a conversation, midnight.(long story, long conversation) and it got to this point where he was asking me what I wanted from him. and I was like: I don't know, I don't know what I want from you! he was pointing out that he likes the idea of a relationship with me, and he wants to try it... but we haven't like agree to anything as is too early. but then he said, I'm very fond of you. its not like I was asking him for his feelings or anything. I was just letting him know I don't like to feel like a bootycall, and he insisted thstwas never his intention blah, blah. he drop that fond there in the middle of the conversation...when will a guy say that? is that a normal word to use when you like someone or is it sort of patronising?

  • i think he is trying to ummm cover himself when it seems you didn't like him the same way. It is indeed an odd thing to say.
