How to loosen up your stiff muscles for an intense workout?

I've been on a very strict, intense workout for the last week. I'm not supposed to have a recovery day, but my muscles are seriously sore. How can I loosen them up to make it less painful while I work out? Are there any other methods for sore muscles? Salves or drinks maybe?

  • What kind of workout?

    Ice bath post workout will help take down swelling.

    Vitamin C and L-glutamine might help.

    Good rest and nutrition help.

    Steroids help a ton.

    Genetics help.

    doing some light work to get blood flowing through them might help.

    Proper warm up/cool down might help.

  • Massage, deeep tissue massage, Chinese or other Asian style, is the best way to go, but that won't cure sore muscles. Only rest can do that. Be careful with this 'workout', it's not sensible.

  • heat and ice therapy. Sometimes I like to massage my muscles with a tennis ball and really dig in the tight spots but this can be uncomfortable. Stretching is a big help.
