Cheerleaders, how do girls that are Flyers treat the girls on Base?

It seems the Flyers are the prettier, skinnier, girls that are probably the popular Chearleaders at school.

The girls on Base tend to be heavier set, less attractive, work horses that are sometimes so pudgy, they can't even do the tumbling routines.

This seems like a volatile mix that would result in cat fighting and bullying.

Do the Flyers treat the Base girls with respect?

Do the Base girls get just as much attention from guys as the Flyers?

Do Base girls and Flyer girls ever fool around with each other, or do the two groups keep to themselves?

Good points raised below. How do the Pom Pom girls get along with the Cheerleaders? Are the Poms looked down upon?
For those that haven't seen a fat Cheerleader base, watch this ... link ... I've seen plenty of chunky base girls in competitions that have not been able to perform. You can Google fat cheerleaders to see more examples.

  • Your idea that the bases are less attractive work horses that are so pudgy they can't even dance is wrong. If a girl can't do the tumbling routine, she wouldn't be put on the team. I don't know what kind of cheerleaders you're looking at- but maybe your perceptions are skewed? Just because a base is bigger than a flyer doesn't mean she's a huge fatty. She's probably just NORMAL weight. Being compared to the flyer makes you look a little bigger, since flyers are usually very tiny.

Flyers are tiny and they are outnumbered about 4:1. So let's say you have 4 girls who are flyers, and 16 girls who are not flyers. That makes them the minority, and the *weaker* minority at that! They shouldn't be starting any bullying with the other girls at all. It doesn't really happen. Of course they treat the bases with respect- they are the ones holding their body weight up in the air and they are responsible for their safety for a large part of the routine! They're the worst people to mess with.

I think you've got a couple misconceptions, like the bases and the flyers are two rival gangs who have it out for each other. It's just a position! They're on a team, one flyer may hate another flyer and 2 of her bases, and then 3 other bases will be her best friend. We don't judge it on the girl's position on the team, we base it on her personality.

Bases and flyers get about the same amount of attention- once again, it goes by the individual girl- not her position! It depends on the guy who's looking at them.

What Girls & Guys Said

  • What a horribly twisted misconception you have of a squad! All girls are normal. Flyers get noticed because they are the ones being thrown around. But the girls who base on the squad I coach are just as small and pretty. I don't know what you watch but you need help. And for the record, the bases get more respect because they worry about keeping the flyer safe and are the ones getting kicked in the face and bruised up protecting their flyer!

  • I was a flyer, and I always felt that the bases had the most power - consequently, if you are mean to a base, said base can drop you in a stunt. Srsly, I wouldn't want to piss off a base. So yeah, bases were treated with respect.

Not that we wouldn't treat them with respect anyways, because most of the bases were older girls, and they aren't ugly. Most of them are at least average.

  • they tend to be skinnier because they have to be light obviously. And it's a sports team as any other, generally every one treats everyone else with respect

    • I'm thinking you're an idiot because you can't tell apart reality and TV. Maybe she's a bit bigger, so what?

Do you go around picking on big people of avoid them like hell? If so you're an even bigger idiot, I'm assuming you're not from the US. Guess what people here are nice to each other and that includes cheerleaders

  • Not true at all. When I cheered they asked to me to fly since I was on the lighter side but I said I couldn't because I didn't feel comfortable up there. But our best flyer was 130 pounds while I was 100 pounds. She was 10x better than I was. Also you have to have a good relationship with your bases. If the flier doesn't trust her bases you can tell when she's up there. Her knees aren't locked, she looks scared, and she's shaking. If a stunt group doesn't get along the stunt will not work. And also just because you are a base doesn't mean your fat or less skinny than the flier. I was basing a girl heavier than me most of the time.

  • It is more than being skinny but being fit and confident.

  • Honestly are you joking! Trust me there's respect there and it HAS to go both ways, in order to go up like that and do a stunt you need to be able to trust implicitly that there's some one below you who's going to catch you and keep you safe when you come down. You need to know without a doubt that you will be caught and you will make it back to the mat with no broken bones. And bases aren't fat, flyers are TINY! Short and skinny; works better that way, lighter means eiser to throw and its eiser to do some of the stunts the shorter you are. Plus on average bses tend to wind up musclier and stronger. and Team is Team, so everyone sticks together.

    • This entire team is a shambles! Their routine repetitive and simplistic, bet not one of these girls could execute a really good floor routine. Not to mention the fact that they drop a girl in competition! And that girl is an anomaly. look at the flyers, tiny, and the rest of the girls are normal size

  • Interesting question right here! I have a related question: how do the pom-pom girls treat the cheerleaders and vice-versa? At some colleges, they have both cheerleaders and pom-pom girls. The former are selected because they perform stunts. They tend to be athletic and thin with no boobs or curves. The pom-pom girls, on the other hand, are chosen because they're ball-tighteningly hot. They tend to have spectacular t*ts and ass and wear super skimpy shorts and t*t hugging shirts. They're basically walking viagra--especially for any guy in college. I've often wondered how the two groups get along.

  • You are right that flyers usually get more attention. This is because when they do aatunt you really only see them doing it, people forget that a flyer can't do her stunt without the base.

On a good team with a good coach, there will be no harsh feelings towards each other. The base has the flyers safety in her hands, and if a flyer can't trust her base, it won't work out.
