Is it better to have a partner (lukewarm companionship & some sex) or be single and do the things you enjoy (but lonely)?

Do you think it's better to have a partner and have someone around, mediocre support and companionship and some sex or to be single and spend time doing the things you like most, avoiding fights and conflict, but feeling lonely and celibate.

These seem like the real options, in the long run, it seems.
