Do you think singles should have a non-relationship "partner" to fulfill the need for intimacy between relationships?

Being single, some of the hardest parts are sleeping alone, lack of intimacy, lack of comfortable/trustworthy sex, lack of emotional dependency, and so on. Do you think singles should be able to have a non-committal relationship-like partner (where clear boundaries and the temporary nature is clear) until one or both find someone they feel is right for a serious relationship? Where it's understood that you're both anticipating moving on... or do you think that's impossible?
