Implied: Should we let the existence of germs prevent us from living? Is it wiser to curtail all in-person social interaction from now on?
@Lliam As a Biologist, what truly worries and concerns me, especially now, with COVID, is that people are being "TOO CLEAN" and we are maybe changing our immune systems, unintentionally, by killing all the minor, little 'infectious' things, that keep our immune system ready and aware.Without constant challenges, and exposure to infectious agents, in the world, our immune systems just kind of 'relax' and are less responsive to new threats, as the theory goes.Coincidence, or something else: Asthma, COPD, Allergies and many other, seemingly unrelated things, but immune-system related things, are on the rise in the last 30 years. Why? Some suggest antibacterial soaps, and being 'Too Clean'.I'm not posting references, because it is just a theory, and I am not sure I actually believe, but it does make some sense. . .
I absolutely agree. It's also most probable that exposure to all the other kinds of covids gives our immune systems the tools to recognize and fight this one. That's why it only kills 0.2 or so of those who contract it.Think of Native Americans who were nearly wiped out by diseases introduced by the first Europeans because their immune systems weren't familiar with the diseases that Europeans had built immunity to. .
