I think that two good people can definitely be incompatible and bad for each other as partners. A close romantic relationship requires a lot more than just being generally good people. There are many other things that go into whether you make good partners or bad partners.

That's part of what makes dating so hard. You not only have to find a good person, but a good person that's a good match for a romantic relationship. It's also why no one should assume that there's something wrong with them just because a relationship didn't work. Someone that would be a perfectly good partner with someone they're a good match with could be a not very good partner with someone they're not a good match with.

My girlfriend and I might be a good example of this. We were both in unhappy marriages with people we weren't really a great match with. I don't think that any of the four of us were bad people, but she and I weren't happy with our exes and they weren't happy with us and we both ended up getting divorced. We're a good match for each other though and both happy in our relationship with each other because we're much more compatible than either of us was with our exes.

Happens all the time. Sometimes one partners inability to provide reassurance leaves problems unresolved. Sometimes one partner's constant need for reassurance creates unnecessary problems. Finding the balance is tricky.

Also, many couples aren't on the same page about timelines and when a decision should be made. Thus, one person's indifference to making a decision creates greater problems than the actual question.

Some people also operate under the "act and then deal with a reprimand later." Not that you have to check in with your partner over every little thing, but too much of this behavior creates a lack of trust, which can easily make any relationship toxic.

At the end of the day, mistakes are always going to happen. Things that mean nothing to you mean something to someone else. Being in a relationship means giving your attention to the things that are 'not worth your time' but are in fact, worth someone else's time.

Some people never learn how to be in a relationship which takes work and compromise. They hop from one to the other because no one gave them tools to be with another person.

Yes, some people just do not work out as a couple.
For example, me and my ex boyfriend were fighting all the time back when we were a couple. We've became friends again a few years after breaking up and we get along just fine now.
