It is. Intimacy isn't limited to physical connection. there's emotional connection too which i think is more important. Intimacy is about being able to be vulnerable in front of each other and pour your hearts out. Like you feel safe to show them your flaws and talk about your insecurities.

Intimacy is knowing what the other feels or thinks without having to say a word. And you just look at each other and you already know when theyre about to cry or if somethings troubling them

Everything starts with the concept of intimacy. It does not always have to be sexual. Sometimes I look at some friends relationships and they last a long time and I can see that intimacy is a big part. But for that you need to know what intimacy means. My ex fought me because when believed we were not on the same page about intimacy (due that I opened up about past experiences and some that were traumatic). My boyfriend is really affectionate and we want to be close but there must always be a balance. My advice, talk about what intimacy means, how intimate you want to get and what boundaries should be set. And all this can change over time but there should be absolutely no rush.
