It depends. If it's family, a close friend, or person I'm interested in? I usually care for them more than myself-

Otherwise, I have a "me, myself, and I" mentality. Sometimes you have to put yourself first in order to not get taken advantage of or hurt too much. It's just a matter of not coming off as selfish either.

I put myself first. It’s like being on a plane, how they tell you to put your own oxygen mask first. You can’t help anyone else if you’re incapacitated. And if you put everyone else before you then you teach them that you come last and you will be treated as such.

Nope, taking care of myself is a fulltime job for me and I can't even do anything for anyone else if I'm doing a bad job of taking care of myself. I have to manage myself well and if I do a good job then I have some capacity left over to do stuff for other people but sometimes I won't.

For me, it is a mixed bag. If I care too much about myself, people would say I am being too selfish and self-centered. If I care too much about others, people would say I am being stupid and retarded. I still haven't found that balance yet

One must always take care of oneself for the sake of self love. No one ever will care about me as much as i am willing to care about me. So why would i care about others more than me. I care so much about me and i like me so much that i am willing to invest in myself so i grow as an individual and focus on my self improvement because this way i can then help other people when i am standing in a stronger position. This is what the concept of enlightened self-interest preaches.
If i were to focus on other people i would get disempowered.

As a former Coast Guard search and rescue specialist I HAD to keep the victims I was charged with finding and helping. As a volunteer firefighter and EMT, I was charged with finding people in burning buildings and treating them. It's in my blood. I come from a family of firefighters and Coast Guard.
