When do you use the word "relationship"?

Relationship defined in the dictionary:
1. the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected.
2. the state of being connected by blood or marriage.
3. the way in which two or more people or groups regard and behave toward each other.

I use "relationship" to describe the connections I have with various people, not just my partner.

I agree with you! I think the word relationship can be used to describe any type of relations you have with another person. However, when talking about it to other people, I don't really use the term as its generally associated with romantic relationships and can create confusion, however I would phrase it like: "I have a great relationship with my parents [or] friends". :)

You mainly just have people talking about it in terms of dating, as you already know.

i only use it with a partner cause for friends its called "friendship" and you can also use "connection" but relationship is usually used for a partner but if you think of it, it shouldn't, should be used for all
