What benefits does religion have?

- None. Everything religion offers is placebo.
It doesn't help the individual deal with mortality, it gives them an excuse not to have to. Often to the detriment of the person. So much left unsaid when you think you're going to meet the same people again after you both die.
It doesn't offer any sort of moral system - It has moral pronouncements, but no system that would allow the believer to analyse some new moral issue that their book couldn't have known about. I'd also add that believers just pick and choose what parts of their holy texts they follow anyway, so their holy texts morality is just ignored in favour of the individuals own opinions.
This is why we rarely see theists at odds with their own holy texts writings. Even in cases where it clearly justifies slavery.
Religion sometimes offers a social group, but this can hardly be spun to religions favour when secular groups achieve the exact same thing.
I can't think of any other typical things theists like to put forth as good parts of their beliefs off the top of my head. But every example I've been presented with was either placebo, untrue or not unique to religion.0|00|1Is this still revelant?I know religion say not to kill, not to stole, not to be greedy.
Then i'm alow to kill people? If religion don't teach me nothing good?- Show All Show Less
@Alexandrubaschet08
And are you following those rules only because your bible said so? If you learned tomorrow that your religion was false, would you then consider it acceptable to murder and steal?
If not, then we know that your book is not the source of those rules, they just happen to coincide with your own secular morality. If a divine sign appears tomorrow and shows me that everything I have been taught by my religion is wrong and I did not belong to the right faith, yes. Because I do not belong to any deity in that situation because I was a pagan, I served a God who was not true.
My beliefs as a human being are sinful, religion has played an important role in my development as a human being. I do not follow all the rules and I admit that I am a sinner, but I still believe in God and in the forgiveness of my sins if I deserve it.
Religion teaches nothing evil.@Alexandrubaschet08
You're evading the question by insisting its just... another god that appears to you.
Say you learn there was /no god/, what then? For me is only one God. This is something divine. But if some how in a divine way it show that the bible is wrong. Then yes, i will start to kill evrybody because i simply can.
I respect thous rould because yes the bible and other books say so, been Ortodox i have much more books then the bible to teach me how to be a bood person. But i'm still a sinerman.@Alexandrubaschet08
Then I have no choice but to conclude you are
A) Dangerous. And not a good person
or B) Very confused about what losing your faith would actually do to you.
As long i have my fate and God whit me i'm less dangeros and very improbably that i will do such actions.
God stop us to kill each other by it 10 roul@Alexandrubaschet08
Improbable? So your god isn't even an effective deterrent.
I don't need a god to stop me from murdering anyone.

- Religion helps to keep the peace, to charitable actions, to help the believers to be better with each other. I've never heard anything bad said in a church. Religion urges us to help, to forgive, to care for others. An old saying from my country says "do what the pope says, not what the pope does". Because priests urge the world to do good deeds. Everyone brings to mind the Middle Ages, when the Catholic Church committed those atrocities. While other religions have done their job. It was not the church that was evil, people who used the name of God and the churches for wars brought religion under this position. What is wrong with religion?0|11|0Is this still revelant?
@havingfun101 They use the name of God in order to excuse the war. They whas actions to take back Jerusalim and Constantinopole.
- Religion can give life peace and meaning. It can answer the question of life and give you something to live for. Religion helped to see myself in better eyes.0|00|0Is this still revelant?

My religion allows me to divorce 3 times, only if there is aggressive action or infidelity. Orthodoxy.
But there are also many sinful people and couples. This statistic is irrelevant.Politics are proxy violence, religion is founded in theoretical violence in the afterlife, there's a difference.

As if women take care of men... When women make more money the divorce rate goes up by 50% and women file 75% of divorces.
Religion is not made for stupid people. Religion tells you not to be lazy, to help and care for others, to respect your parents and families and your husband.
If "the woman must obey the man's command" it does not literally mean that you are slaves. You choose who you married and it is ethical and respectful to choose someone you love and admire, so that they will willingly listen to each other. "I gave you a woman so that you can love her" this never referred to carnal lust but to the love of helping and appreciating her, the man is always urged to help a girl to be polite.
Everything is interpretive in religious books.- Opinion Owner1 mo
Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve; and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor.
Okay please tell what this is suppose to mean then
It means that, I'll just use a bible verse...: Ecclesiastes 7:28: "What I have continually sought, I have not found; I have found only one upright man among a thousand, but I have not found one upright woman among all of them."
Can we agree that you as women are more emotional and sensitive? If so, this interpretation is the word of the Lord for the creation of woman, men are the brave and reckless who learn through their own mistakes. You must learn from our mistakes without doing anything thoughtless. We can see again that we boys have fought most wars, riots and we are also much more dangerous. We are the ones who have the hardest physical and mental experiences over time (depending on how you come up with this sentence).
You have been created more physically sensitive so we cannot be equal as long as one can kill another with bare hands, says one girl.
God created man to have certain duties and the woman others. Living in harmony in this way. Also, I don't think it would suit you for a girl to support a man, for you to earn more, to have a harder job, to know how to do more things.
How would you look at a man who does only 2 things, compared to one who solves them all?Religion does not enslave women. Man does it, not God.
God speaks of love, kindness, sharing, prayers, mercy...@havingfun101 religion don't promote divorce, personal i don't give a crap for the official papers.
@Opinion Owner
I've found her many times and rejected her consistantly as not being worth the financial and legal risks.@Alexandrubaschet08 Can we talk about how marriage as an institution started as a property trade, with the husband buying the wife from the dad?
@havingfun101 The idea of divorce is something so horible from your example. That is another reson not to do it.
@Bear8828 What is God's fault if people do not keep his commandments? God gave the man, the woman for free, made especially for the man. It has never been said that a man bought or took or asked a woman from God.
This is man's fault.
What is God guilty of for the sins we commit?@Alexandrubaschet08 god, if he exists, would be guilty of making the world in which we live where things can be corrupted by man and where we can sin.
@Bear8828 This is life, not the Garden of Eden or Heaven.
Life is a consequence of our deeds.
God is not the master and we are dogs. God is the father and we are the children, he educated us, he gave them mentors but we do what we want.
Lying, being greedy, cheating, stealing, aren't they sins?@Bear8828 I agree that life is ugly and hard, unfair, painful and in many other negative ways, but that should not distract us from the path of love and kindness.
@Opinion Owners prenuptial agreements are regularly thrown out by judges. You have the luxury of ignorance, as a woman.
U: @Alexandrubaschet08 Honesty I would rather be the breadwinner and let the guy be the stay at home parent.
When women make more money the divorce rate goes up by 50% & women file 75% of divorces. The men who listened when their wives said this wish they never had. You're a chameleon, but we see you.
P. s. can I not blame women for being hypocrites?@Alexandrubaschet08 what kind of loving father sends his kids to a life of eternal torment?
No matter what god is ultimately responsible for what exists in the world. Either he knew we would sin, but didn't care or couldn't stop it. Or he didn't know it would happen. No matter what the blame ultimately goes to god@havingfun101 If you don't love God who is the ultimate good and the truth of evrething he will not keep you whit him so the fire of hell will be the last thing that is out of haven
@Alexandrubaschet08 god is the ultimate good? Are you saying god has never brought on a single bad thing or ever done harm?
@Bear8828 We humans had everything in the Garden of Eden, we had only one rule then, not to eat from the divine tree. Otherwise I could do everything because I had eternal life, we ate and drank only for taste, everything was good. But the only rule that was, we broke. So we are punished "sent to the corner." We are like spoiled children when we criminalize God for our deeds. Parents punish their children for educating them even if those children do not like them, as do we.

@havingfun101 haha what authority am I appealing to? I reject the bible but I assume Alex takes it as infallible. I'm just pointing out logical inconsistency within the bible
@Opinion Owner
That's where you're wrong, kiddo.
70% of American men ages 20-34 aren't married because marriage, cohabitation and childbirth are at all time lows and women lose 90% of their eggs by age thirty and file 75% of divorces. This is an organic rebellion.@Bear8828 casual observation would have worked, there was no need for specific citations.

@havingfun101 dude you can't just spit statistics as proof of your point, and then say "I dont need sources, I can just observe it". You're making a specific claim and you better be able to back it up
