What does it take for a relationship between a theist and an atheist to work long-term?

A lot of communication & understanding.

I've been with theists before, & me being an atheist ALWAYS brings up conversation about why I should believe in an imaginary friend. If not from my partner, it's his family.

The theist has to understand that there is almost zero chance of converting their partner to believe & the atheist has to understand that majority of people NEED to believe in something because they need a reward system (heaven & hell) to be decent human beings & care about their fellow man instead of just being & believing in HUMAN DECENCY.

For a theist and an atheist to be in a relationship, there will always be at least an undercurrent of incompatibility. it makes a relationship more difficult. The tendency, is for the theist to slowly become an atheist when in a relationship with an atheist.

Read the Bible. You're told:

1) not to company with fornicators. (i. e. don't even be their friend and don't eat with them either)
2) Do not be "unequally yoked" to unbelievers, which means don't form romantic or business relationships with Atheists and Agnostics. They cannot be trusted because they are demonic.
