OK, so from what I gather, I'm a little older than the average GAG member. most of you seem to be in the 18-30 demographic, but there's definitely an under-18 and a 30-plus presence as well. Maybe I'm just getting old, but 90% of the modern music SUCKS in my opinion.

I guess I'm no different than almost anyone else in that I tend to think the period of time when I was 12-22 was the best time in history for music, clothing, etc. I grew up on rap and r&b from the late 80s to the late 90s. back then, the 30- or 40-something crowd would tell me to buy some pants that fit me and go on about how terrible rap is, and claim "it's not music, it's just people talking", and that it pales in comparison to the beatles or the rolling stones or whatever classic rock band they were into. and I'm sure that the older generation mocked them too when they were younger, and claimed that the beatles are just noise, and frank sinatra is where it's at. nothing new under the sun, I guess.

it seems like 5 years ago everything was still the same, I just had noticed that rap wasn't quite as good since the deaths of B.I.G., 2pac, Big Pun, Big L, etc, but I was still able to find some suitable stuff. but now it's at a point where almost nothing is good. little wayne is pretty good, but now he's getting weird. Drake is OK, but he's a little too soft for my liking. Rick ross seems to be the only dude keeping it remotely hood, but his songs are either classic or straight garbage, so he doesn't put out the volume of songs I'd need. I like the gutter-ness of waka flocka flame, but he's more of a pre-game (I play semi-pro football) locker room hype music type. I like wale's radio songs, but I wasn't really feeling his whole albums. are there even really "albums" anymore? it seems like now you only have to make great SONGS. I thought the internet would be good for keeping musicians honest. I used to get jerked ALL THE TIME when I was young, buying tapes and CDs with only two good songs on it. I respected Ready to Die, Illmatic, Doggystyle, the Chronic and Wu-tang:Enter the 36 Chambers so much because I DIDN'T HAVE TO HIT THE SKIP BUTTON. Now we can try before we buy. But it went the other way, and we could pick and choose which individual songs we want.

So is it just me or has rap and music in general taken a turn for the worse. I went to college party a couple weekends ago and rocked out to some dubstep. it wasn't terrible, but it was more about being f*cked up and dancing like a jackass. am I off base here and just becoming the crotchety old man I swore I wouldn't? or is the music really this bad? or best yet, am I unaware of some good stuff you could put me on to? working full time doesn't leave me much time to explore music the way I used to. would love input from GAGgers of all ages (wow, that sounds AWFUL, haha...but I'll leave it for comedy's sake.)

So yesterday I was sitting in class playing with my tech deck. I found it whilst cleaning my room on Saturday. I was just chilling when one of my classmates says, pretty audibly,"Oh my gosh look everyone it's a tech deck. Uhh I remember playing with that when I was 4. But then I grew up." I was just gonna let it slide because he's one of those guys that's all talk but I know that if I was to confront him I could make him eat the floor. Anyway, after calling me a child, he proceeded to walk back to his desk while singing the theme song to that Disney movie with Tyra Banks in it. I mean its one thing if it was a classic but I can't even remember the name of the movie. I laughed to myself and thought," Ho-ly crap. What a friken hypocrite." but I couldn't hold it in. I said to him, across the room," OHH. I'm a child for playing with a finger board but you can sing a song from a Disney movie that came out before this finger board did?" the class went silent. He didn't even have anything to say. Then I said, again across the room," You're such a fu*king hypocrite." I got a detention but he got his sh*t handed to him.

I know that I'm not the only one. Who else knows a hypocrite that you'd like to smack?
