Ok, so after watching my parents growing up and just looking around at the world now a days, I don't view "marriage" as worth it. I'm mean, the whole thing, is basically just a huge ceremony telling the government that a pair is together. And when that shit goes down the tubes, it allows for the pair to get royally fucked. Instead of a wedding ring, id like a promise ring.
I like the concept of a "life partner" instead. Which is just a couple promising to be together, without the whole, ownership kinda thing. Like, if shit goes down the tubes, it doesn't affect me as much.
I'd much rather we go our separate ways if shit goes down the tubes, then have to go through divorce court and yadada. While I love the idea of having a partner, I don't like the idea of wasting money and resources on the whole splitting up. And if kids are involved, custody is already a thing I'll have to deal with, so it won't affect the whole union arrangement.
Its straight up reality that marriage is not a guaranteed thing and with my future goals as a working woman, I don't wanna tie down a man who in the end won't last.
So, does anyone have experience with having a partner, without the whole marriage deal?

My boyfriend and I have been together since May last year so it’s going on a year. We were friends for a few months prior to us dating. We are both seniors in high school. He takes a few classes in the morning and then takes classes at the aviation academy at a community college. I stay at the high school all day. I am in musical theater. I do all the school musicals and plays. After he graduated from community college (I think next week) then he is going off into the Air Force. He is moving to Daytona Florida and attending this private aviation academy school. We live in Ohio. He is supposed to move in August 14th. I am staying in Ohio and going to a 4 year college for acting/theater. I move in August 27th. He is also doing the summer seminar but I don't know when that starts. We went to homecoming together, we are going to prom together (prom is in 8 days), we have had sex many times, I gave him a yarn bracelet I made and he wears it, he hangs out with me when he’s available, our parents are good friends, our siblings are friends (my sister and his sister get along well), there was a girl that he was flirting with or something happened a few weeks ago I don't know she’s crazy but nothing ever happened outside of work but they both got fired from the place they worked at but they don’t talk anymore, he’s nice to me, he gave me a promise ring, he’s my first boyfriend but I’m not his first girlfriend but we are serious. He turns 18 on prom day, and I turn 18 in December.
