There's a guy that I've been acquainted with for years but we've rarely talked and always been very shy around each other. We both don't really have trouble talking to other people, although we're both introverted so we aren't social butterflies. I've always felt like we have a connection of some kind but I tend to become speechless around him so it makes it difficult to have conversations. We do greet each other and we have talked on the odd occasion but I am always really nervous so we've never had a deep conversation; I think he often seems nervous too but I don't know if I'm just imagining it.

I hadn't seen him for a few months and I saw him again the other day at a church gathering. I glanced at him and then didn't want to be obvious, so I turned partially away to watch a baby playing. I felt someone looking at me in an affectionate way for about 10 seconds, so I turned my head back to look at him and he was staring at me with a dreamy smile. He looked at me for another couple seconds then jumped and looked surprised and quickly turned his head to the left.

Later on, I was talking with his family and he walked into the room; he was walking normally and then he looked at me and started to walk differently. He kept on making eye contact with me (about every 10-15 seconds) while I was talking to his family; he would hold my eyes 1-2 seconds each time. He didn't say anything. When his family went to leave, they each said goodbye to me in turn, until he was the only one left there. I said, "see ya" (making eye contact with him) - he looked in my eyes for about 5 seconds with his mouth partially open, frozen in place, then mumbled softly, "see ya, [my name]". Then he left.

We've known each other for over 2 years, and we're really good friends. This past 6 months/year we've gotten increasingly close. We trust each other, confide in each other (though more me than him I will admit), and he just all around has my back. He is an amazing friend and does a lot for me. He's open and honest, and in the past few months, the touch barrier's been broken. Touching my shoulder when he greets me, brief hugs, etc. However, I'm 17. He's 22. IF he likes me, I think he's waiting for me to turn 18, which is understandable. It would also explain why he is only open/affectionate/whatever else when other people aren't around. He definitely changes and becomes more relaxed when it's just us. And texting/meeting up is 2-sided. However, I'm afraid there might be another girl; I can't see into his college life, after all. I was talking to one of his female friends that figured out I like him (I don't conceal well). I asked her if our age gap was too much, and she said "No, that's not your problem." And cuz I'm dumb, I didn't think to ask WHAT is my problem. But the tone did possibly hint at another girl. I can be paranoid, though. But there was a girl he openly flirted with on Facebook (yeah, I fb stalk... Guilty as charged). He's a forestry major, and he works in a sawmill. There was a picture of him trying (and failing) to look tough by a huge log he cut.

Him: Thanks (her name). You know it has been said that lumbermen make the best studs ;)
Her: Haha I don't doubt it (his name)

Sooooooo. Am I making a big deal out of nothing, or is that bad? Considering I'm 80% sure he knows I like him, and he does nothing to deter me, but rather encourages me, I really think there might be something. He would not lead somebody on that he doesn't like back. But... I'm a little worried. Should I be?

I feel like my bf isn't consistent with his feelings and affection toward me. He would usually tell me he misses me and call me "baby" and other cute names.

For weeks I would say "I miss you" and he wouldn't say it back just ignore it and continue the convo. He wouldn't call me sweet things for weeks on end. We are newly dating so I'm saying that consistency in the beginning is important as you're building an emotional connection but he's so hit and miss with his affections. I have bought it up several times and he gets pissed and says he doesn't know what I'm talking about.

Am I being needy or is he just not being fair? If I'm not affectionate it's just like two friends casually speaking, my male friends have more affection toward me than he does. What's up with that?
