When I start someone I make sure to ask him if he wants a relationship or not. Sometimes asking if he is ready to settle down or not. (I don't want just a hook up) Well after texting a guy for 3 weeks (saying he wanted a relationship an almost proposed to his ex before they broke up) he decided he just wasn't ready for a relationship just yet and asked if we could be friends. He apologized about the whole thing and after a week of not talking he's my best friend now, but in the back of my mind I do wish we could go out again even though I feel like that will probably never happen.

I met this other guy at school and he told me that he wanted a relationship and wanted to settle down, even saying that a girlfriend should be someone you plan on marrying and that if I was just looking for sex I should just stop talking to him. we had our ups an downs after dating for a month an still said he barely knew me. something happened and he decided he wasn't ready for a relationship yet, but also didn't want to be friends b/c he didn't want me to forget my feelings for him. He said that after he cleared everything up in his life he would come back to me and that he misses me even if he starts seeing other girls in the meantime (which I didn't like hearing. I don't get why he could date them but not date me if he's not ready for anything?) I don't know whether to just forget this guy completely (hate him for all of this rollercoaster stuff and ignore him or keep my feelings in case he does comes back one day) either way I don't plan on staying single and "waiting" for someone who won't even call me thier girlfriend but it's still confusing. I'm scared he just wants to keep me around as an option but I think that's just the fear from my past haunting me.

So the question after a little bit of background. Why do guys say that they are ready for a relationship even if they aren't? Did I just get unlucky to find 2 guys in a row that tried but found they couldn't handle something serious yet?

We dated for a year. He was deeply in love with me, everyone could see that. But he was so insecure, and it was a turn off for me. He broke up with me once because he thought I was going to give my number out to these guys that liked me and I had told him I would never do something like that. But he broke up with me anyway. I cried, but two months later, a guy from his school started talking to me and we instantly fell in love, started dating. My ex came back and I told him I was dating someone else. Upon finding out, he immediately became angry and we had a huge fight, and I told him to stop talking to me. That was four years ago. Throughout those four year, when me and my be would break up, my ex would follow me on all social media and ask me to hang out. I declined, treating him like shit. This year, me and my boyfriend are done for good. I recently came upon my ex's Twitter and saw him and I remembered all of the good times we had regardless of him being insecure. I decided to text him and tell him to hang out with me (I live two hours away). He immediately said yes and we hung out the entire weekend. I could tell he still had feelings and he even asked if I was looking for a relationship. We had sex, and in the morning, he said he wanted to talk but I couldn't bring myself to kill the vibe and apologize for how I treated him. So we just talked about simple things and then he drove home, saying he had an amazing time and to invite him whenever. 2 days later, I ask him if he'd like to take things slowly and try again. He told me he was thinking about that (thru text) and that his hesitation was that I was the only woman who has ever hurt him and I'm like kryptonite to him. I apologized profusely (thru text) and he never answered. That was a week ago. Is he interested?
