So my boyfriend and I come from pretty different worlds. In HIS family he only has 1 brother, and his family sees each other nearly daily as almost all of them within 30 minutes of each other. So typically no one cleans up their houses when having a visit. And no one dresses nice, even on holidays it's almost like a normal day with extra food. Even on Thanksgiving or Christmas no one sits down and eats together, it's a "eat as you come" deal and no one dresses nice.

My family is very different. I am the second oldest of 12 children. Everywhere we go people look at us, openly stare, and even actively point and count. So our mother has always made sure we dress nicely in public. No clothes with holes, no sweat pants, nothing that even LOOKS old and faded. Even for just a trip to Walmart. And beyond that, our family isn't "close" like hism we're more the type to get together on SOME holidays per year IF even that. One year we might see our grandmother twice, the next, not at all. SO when everyone DOES get together, it's an event. Everyone sits together, everyone dresses to the 9's, we use the good China, etc.

Yet everything we spend a holiday with my family my boyfriend of almost 5 years STILL complains about having to dress nice because "it's just my family". In his mind he couldn't IMAGINE his family judging him for wearing a shirt that has holes in it to Thanksgiving. However in MY family we still think about that time my Uncle's wife wore sweat pants to Thanksgiving 3 years ago and she has already been uninvited to any future holidays or weddings for the offense.

Is it wrong to expect him to dress up a little on holidays at least?

Back when i was getting married, I went from being forced by fam to invite 143 people to finally just saying “screw y'all, its my wedding” (well not anymore lol). Yea as of now, there's less than 20 people that I’d invite. I wouldn't go over...
$1000 on a cake
$2000 on a dress
$8000 on a garden/beach venue/tent/decor $3000 on food
Basically tryna keep it at $15k or less on a simple yet elegant wedding. Its still a lot for a day celebration but I saved for it a while back when I was supposed to marry. So im not worried. I also wouldn't go over more than $6000 for a honeymoon and less than $3000 in total on our rings. So i think thats now around $25k. Def more than what I planned to spend in total but I don't know we’ll see when it happens. I just wanna be able to pay for the majority of stuff myself and what I can’t cover, hopefully the future groom can. I just dont believe the brides family should have to pay. Oh yea and I wouldn't do my bridesmaids dirty. I wanna look beautiful for whoever I’m marrying but they have the right to look cute (not as cute but cute) as well. So they’d def wear sexy dresses or jumpsuits.

Like i said, I suggested my cousin let me wear a pantsuit in her wedding. At first she said no, but after seeing some pics, she's reconsidering... hehe. Shit now i really gotta get back in the gym and stuff 🤣 My cuzzo just asked me to be in her wedding next year. I was honestly shocked cause she stay flakin so she def wasn't in mine anymore. When she asked me, she said “im still in yours right?” I tried to float around giving an answer by saying “Well i kinda gotta be in a relationship again first” 😂🤷‍♀️ But yea, i haven't been in a wedding since like age 3 (my other cousins wedding) and age 12 (my dads wedding) both of which I was the miniature bride. She’s already tellin me i gotta wear a dress and nearly fainted when i jokingly suggested a pantsuit 😝 But hey at least she said i can wear my sneakers under the dress since it drags along the floor.
