This is quite embarrassing, so here it goes: I was the recipient of a large overpayment by the employment insurance. I did not call to say I was over-payed so I subsequently did not pay anything back either. I received a call from an administrator named Vanessa who politely told me to come in so she could "review" my information in person for security purposes. Upon my arrival I was greeted by the receptionist (there was two at the desk, so her assistant took over in her absence. I would presume she would have known something in advance) escorted me into the admins/accountants office. After Vanessa skimmed over a couple of details (SIN, birth cert, drivers license, banking) she swiftly turned the computer screen and said quietly and firmly that the over payment in conjunction with my non responsiveness was an act of fraud. At that moment the receptionist shut the door and gave me two options:1. I am free to leave, but they will inform the police 2. I can consent to a "citizens arrest" which would allow me to avoid a criminal record. I consented to the "arrest" in which I let them tie me up with cable ties and rope which was apparently for their safety (even though I was compliant). I eventually realized they persuaded me into being tied up in order to access my wallet and banking info in order to pay for accountants mistake.

After a painful hour spent on the ground, I was finally cut free after being "cleared". Were they just covering their own backs? Or was their blackmail legit?
