If it gets to the point where one of them feels strongly about it and wants marriage but their bf/gf is either not into it, not ready or simply doesn't feel the same way and refused to marry them... who would take it harder and be hurt more (if it were a loving long-term relationship)? A gf or a bf?

I've heard of lots of stories about the gfs that were ready after several years and when their men wasn't into it, then it hurt them. After a while, the girl breaks up and is truly hurt over it.

But vice-versa did happened too. One of my female friends declined a proposal ages ago and the relationship didn't ever recover from it, they broke up after a very short time and they haven't been on speaking terms since even though he already has a gf. She was surprised that he didn't even want her as a friend since he was her best friend before dating.

My boyfriend and I have been together for almost two years and have lived together for about seven months. Six years ago, he and his ex-wife divorced after twelve years of marriage. He told me that he didn't want the divorce, but she did because she didn't like how he works a lot (he's a doctor) and he didn't want to have children. She's now re-married (guess who was the best man) and living in Texas (my boyfriend and I live in Massachusetts). Her and her new husband have two children and one on the way (guess who's the godfather). He has two kids of his own (twins) from a relationship after her and before me. Although she and my boyfriend are divorced, I'm uncomfortable because she and my boyfriend are still very good friends.

Here are my reasons:
- When I first started dating him, we admitted to each other that we both have an ex we think we'll always care about (although several months into our relationship he told me that he understands why it never worked out for him and his ex-wife because he never would have met me if it had)
- He says she'll always be a close friend.
- He attended his ex-wife's wedding (this was a few years before I met him, but I'm still uncomfortable by it because who does that?)
- She visits Massachusetts once or twice a year to visit friends, and whenever she's here, she always stops by to see my boyfriend. She even greets him with a kiss!
- I get a vibe that she doesn't like me. She seems condescending towards me. My boyfriend says she's just wary about the age difference, but I feel like she should have no opinion because they're divorced! I did meet her husband (and their kids) and he seems very nice.
- He travels with her when they go overseas for charity work and they stay in the same hotel room! (It happened once since I started dating him, but he told me they'd done it before. We had an argument over it and he said they'd stay in separate hotel rooms from now on, but it still bothers me that he even did it!)

Ok so here is my life story sorry if it is boring. I was born in Iran and when I was six America finally said they will let us be refugees. I had no idea. I have two older sisters and they knew. I had no idea we were going to leave Iran. One day we just did. After hours and hours of strange airports full of people that touched eachother and didn't cover their bodies we made it to Vienna Austria. I'm not Muslim and that is why America agreed. We were religious refugees. Austria was terrible. The children at school were mean to me and I didn't understand a word of it. I didn't even know what Christmas was until then but we didn't celebrate it. At age aix I developed a stress disorder that made me so sad I became physically sick and spent a lot of time in a hospital. After a year of being bullied, living in a dirty apartment with no personal rooms wear the whole family slept in one bed, and the hospital we could finally come to America. We moved into some ghetto cuz that's all we could afford and my father that was an engineer and a professor in Iran was now working at good will. After two years in the ghetto I had finally learned English and my father got a decent Job. We loved into a nice house. I still remember the children at my elementary school calling me a dirty terrorist and. Not playing with me. It really hurt. It's been 10 years since we moved out of Iran. And I watch terrible things happen to my family there while I sit here in America. We act very American but my marriage will still be arranged when the time comes and it will be an Iranian man. But my family and I have come far. I'm just glad I'm alive. I'm still depressed and traumatized because what I saw as a child in Iran but I'm trying my best.
