I'm crushing on a girl that's in the same college ministry group as I am and her home town is the same as mine. I really think we'd get along well/connect if we started talking to each other but I'm bad at talking to people in a large group setting. I hate small talk. It's almost winter break and I was thinking of messaging her over FB over break, since I probably won't see her in person. by the way I'm a senior and she's a freshman.

Would that be weird?
How would you feel if someone you only briefly knew started a conversation with you on FB? Of the opposite gender.

Is friendzone something that only exist recently?

I'm referring to all sorts of friendzone. Stuff like doing a lot for the opposite gender but it still is unrequited love. Stuff like being extremely good friends with the opposite gender but having no feelings for each other.

If it did exist last time, why so much hate now?
Or if it didn't exist last time, why is there such a thing now?
