I'm not materialistic at all and I'm actually not a huge fan of getting gifts, however, I need other people's opinions on a discussion a friend and I were having. Even feeling as if a lot of holidays are just commercialized and are just meant to make sales on flowers and presents, I would get upset if the guy I'm seeing doesn't do something for, say, Valentine's Day (since it's coming up). I wouldn't expect a teddy bear the size of my car, a dozen roses, and dinner at a ridiculously expensive restaurant, but maybe a card and having the two of us make dinner together would be absolutely perfect. My friend feels as if it's not a big deal if a boyfriend or girlfriend chooses not to do something for you on holidays, citing the fact that most couples show their appreciation for each other on a regular basis and it isn't necessary to give each other special treatment on holidays. I still would be sad if my guy didn't even acknowledge that it was a special day. I'm wondering how other people feel about this.

I don't think he cares at all. I felt unloved, and unsupported and after all these pleas for attention he just did not show any care so I walked out. After I left I told him I am sad and regret what has happened and his response was "i give up, I just can't do anything right so it's good you have left, I was expecting it"

He also has deep guilty father syndrome and has openly said that his previous children will be a bigger priority compared to the new addition and his aim will be to ensure their feelings are never hurt. I understand he doesn't want other children to feel left out but they need to learn that the new addition is an equal to them. He has separate bedrooms for all children whom come by twice a month but there is no attempt to make a baby room. The new baby will only get a couple of drawers in one of our bedrooms. This just isn't fair. It is my first child, I have expectations too! He has shown no enthusiasm for the new baby even though it was HE who wanted a baby all along. His children have often been rude to me and said things like "this is not your house" etc and he has never bothered to discipline them or ensure they treat me with respect. Infact, he blamed me for the way they talk to me when I first moved in because according to him I was being too nice to the children.

Moreso, our anniversary came and I spent hundreds on an experience for both us but he didn't bother to make me feel special even once. Last Valentines day he didn't bother either. I just feel so unloved and especially during a very delicate time during pregnancy when I genuinely need affection and support, he has been completely negligent.

This is not the first time we have had a breakup for the same reasons and things just do not change and I am fed up.

Shall I just move on and not bother with him?

girls, would you prefer to be given real or artificial flowers for a special occasion (e. g. valentines, anniversary, etc)?

Today, my mother prepared food and dad ate the meal, I complimented my mom's cooking as it was very good but dad didn't say anything. Later, when I asked my mom why dad didn't say anything, she said "Most husbands are like that. They never compliment their wives, they never buy them gifts, they never celebrate wives' birthdays, not even on special occasions like Valentine's Day, etc."

I said, "But, I often hear that a boyfriend gave his girlfriend a gift, they go out with their girlfriends, etc."

"That happens only before marriage, after marriage, it is gone and what left is a rock-like husband who has no feelings!"

"Really? But, even in TV shows, I have noticed husbands giving gifts to their wives, taking out them for dinner..."

"What TV shows show is not real. Most husbands are rock-like."

"Dad never compliments you?"

"Never, he never does that. If his dish is all clean without any substances, that means he liked the food but if there's still some food left, it means the meal wasn't good. Of course, not all husbands are like that. 2 out of 10 husbands are truly affectionate and loving towards their wives, others are rock-like and don't care about wives much. If you need confirmation, go ask the neighbors around."

So, I was wondering, is this really true? Husbands are rock-like without any feelings after marriage?
