I have always had a personal rule not to date someone with mental health issues. My last boyfriend had depression and his insecurities seriously took a toll on me and he started to drag me down with him. I've also found friends with depression do this too. I used to have a friend that would make herself sick, then tell us about it, on occasion doing it in front of us.

Does it make me a bad person? I just don't want to be someones therapist. I understand if depression developed during the relationship that's different, but I'd never date someone that I knew had depression.

Hear me out. I have frequent mood swings but know I’m clearly not bipolar. I wish there was an actual mental health diagnosis to back up the way I feel. I was diagnosed with anxiety, took meds but it didn’t work. That tells me there’s nothing wrong with me (I tried other meds) and I wish there was something that backed up why I am the way I am. If the diagnosis was legitimate, medicine would have worked right? Anyone feel this way too?

I know that may sound super rude of me to say, but he calls me all the time crying and saying he wants to kill himself. This has been going on for a good two months now. (He's got bipolar and major depression & isn't on meds.) I told him I cannot handle him calling me in the middle of the night all the time & that we need a lot of space for a while and for him not to contact me. I feel he leans on me that he's getting worse. He got super mad and said he'll die if I did that, like a threat. Is it so wrong I want to stop contact with him for now? His parents told me I cannot stop contact with him or else he'll hurt himself, but I'm just ignoring them all right now. He's an adult. If he's that bad, he should get professional help, right? I cannot do anything. I got a lot going on myself. He brings me and others down. By the way, he's not into girls, so it's not that he's trying to do some sick way of getting me as a date or girlfriend.
