My situation: I'm currently in graduate school, finishing within one year (I hope!), I have a girlfriend who has another 3 years of graduate school left. We are both 24. I also come from a Greek family, so the whole "empty nest syndrome" is really severe.

What age do you guys think is an appropriate age to leave the family home?

More details: My family would be fine with me getting married and moving in with them, so they have no limit (and I think that's on the crazy side), so what do people think is normal?

To answer the question it should be 18. This is something I quite don't understand why the legal age limit is 21. I'll be 18 in less than a week. Legally, I can buy tobacco products, move out of the parents house, join the military, vote, and be recognized as an adult.

I can hold M-16 and go kill the "bad guys", but I can't go into a bar and have a drink. I had my first drink when I was 16. Pretty early age I would say but compared to my parents, my dad told me he had his first drink when he was around 13. To get one thing clear my parents don't condone drinking or go out and buy me a 30 pack. They have however told me the facts and taught me just about everything I can. It's up to me however I decide to use that information.

As I said before I had my first drink when I was 16. I've never been drunk. I've never stumbled home or threw up because I didn't know how to control myself. I look at some people though, who are experiencing their first taste of alcohol and it is pretty crazy. These people are drinking everything they can, mixing and matching, throwing up, and of course acting like the drunk person no body wants around.

If anything drinking a few beers at this age has taught me how to have self control. Learn now. "It is better to learn to drink in a parent's house than a fraternity house" ."In these situations responsible drinking could be taught through role modeling and educational programs. They figure that a twenty-one year old person was more mature than the average eighteen year-old. I feel that just because a person lives to be twenty-one does not determine how mature they are. "

Some say, we have barriers in place so no child will purchase an alcohol product. I laugh at that. If anything, prohibition has taught us that simply doesn't work. You take something away, you're only giving that person a reason to get it. I know people who can easily get beer for their parties so they can play beer pong, no questions asked. Hell, they'd even get a keg but you need to leave your license for that. How hard is it to stand outside a package store, wait for someone, tell the guy what you want and give the guy an extra $5 for the favor. It is just way to easy. By lowering the age to 18, you won't have the incentive to go out and drink because one the thrill or danger of it is removed.

There are only 4 countries in the whole entire world who have their legal age limit at 21, the United States, being one. It is not okay to buy a drink, but it is okay to drink as long as you have permission? It just seems all to weird to me.

This is more like a rant of my personal opinions and views on this matter and I know some will oppose. Anyhow, I would like to hear your views on the subject. Thanks.
