If you have the opportunity to get an answer to something you've been wondering for such a long time, but the risk of knowing is losing someone you love, do you ask? or still just always wonder?

Basically a year ago my boyfriend and I split over stupid shit and ended up back together 2 months later. I got a call from the ex girlfriend and she told me that they slept together when we were apart and he told her not to say anything. I was pissed but still stayed with him.
I've been thinking since we got back together though, that maybe he tried to date her again and she said no, so he got back with me because he couldn't have her.

I know that seems stupid, but now I have the chance to ask the ex as she recently gave me her number, because she's a hairstylist and has done my hair before. Part of me is happy I even have the chance to ask her, but the other is nervous that if I do ask her she'll try to talk to my boyfriend or tell him I texted her.
