I hear mixed messages on this. What, exactly, constitutes a strong jaw line? Is it width of lower jaw? Or is it length and protrusion of the jaw and face out from the neck?

I have heard different things. Some say a wide face is more masculine, with a shorter jaw. Others have said longer more prominent features are more masculine.

I have read somewhere that high estrogen levels cause wider faces in women. It makes sense, most women I see do actually have wider and flatter faces than men.

This seems to suggest longer jaws are masculine; think ‘horse face.’

But then I hear about things like FWHR or face width to height ratio. You measure the width of your cheekbones against the height between the upper lip and eye brows and the closer this ratio is to 2:1 the more masculine the face.

So which is it? I’ve attached some photos that show different types of faces.

Some of these guys have narrow jaws, some have wide jaws. Ironically, most male models seem to have narrower jaws compared to the wider faces of Brad Pitt or Dwayne Wayde, which are theoretically supposed to have the more masculine face.
