I grew up with an emotionally and physically abusive mother who would never shut up about the flaws that men make. She always said stuff like “men are so forgetful” ”men never listen” “men are so stupid”. She always treated my little sister like a princess and my dad and I like second class citizens. She used to expect me to fail at everything just to keep at it. She is no longer that sexist but loves to not let me live down how much of a failure I have become even now. Ever since I was a child she basically told me that I cannot do anything right without her guidance so I became a momma’s boy because I was too afraid of what she will do if I leave her too much out of my life. Naturally, I expected my dating life was to be a slave to all my dates. However, my first girlfriend was really nice and it just didn’t compute with me and it made me wake up to this whole situation. She eventually dumped me because I got really depressed after my realization. I am getting help now but mom doesn’t like it one bit. If your crush went through an upbringing like this, would you still date him?

I recently started talking to this girl, and was head over heals about her. When she was done with school, we were interested in being together, starting to meet the parents, sex, stuff like that. But then she said she needed some time, because despite how much she liked me, she needed to fully get over her ex.
Basically the guy dumped her because he didn't want to drive 3 hours to see her.
I was extremely disappointed, because I put so much effort into things and she's been very one sided and quiet since. We got into a conversation last night, and she made me mad, and I said what's going on isn't fair to me, because I put so much effort into planning things and getting time off, to not do anything with her and have her vent about her ex and talk to me about things I didn't want to hear.
I tried saying he missed out and she didn't do anything wrong, but I think I'm making things worse. She said she doesn't know when she'll be ready, but insists I'm the best guy she's met and would want to be with me but "things will work out as they need to"
At this point I'm just very mad and sad. Would giving her time be beneficial or should I just drop it an move on?
