So, I met this girl on tinder, but I'm feeling pretty self conscious about not having a job. I'm in a transition rn. I have money saved and stuff so dating isn't an issue. It's just such a conversation killer when the topic comes up. I feel like girls immediately become skeptical of your worth when they hear you're unemployed. I've looked up guides to help avoid deal with the topic if it comes up but at the same time I feel like it's just inevitable that I'm going to not qualify for most women's standards no matter what. To make matters worse I'm still a virgin and socially awkward around women. What do you ladies think? Should I just not go through with it? What are your thoughts on the situation? (I'm in college living in the dorms to put my situation into better perspective. I dress nice, always. I mess around too much, I get lost in my thoughts frequently, I've been called a cynic, social situations can give me anxiety, I'm slightly overweight, just the tip. I study the hard sciences, chemistry, physics, and biology. My greatest fault is my enormous ego, which prevents me from opening up to people in public, festers insecurities, and makes it hard for me to not sound sarcastic when I try to give people genuine compliments).

So, lately I've been having some trouble talking with girls because of this issue. I'm in school full time, in my senior year, as a chemistry major. I I've been given a lot more free time this semester and could pick up a job. I've never HAD to work while in school because my tuition is taken care of, but lately I've been getting some real negative feedback about not working. I'll chat with some girls and probably the 2nd or 3rd question in will be "so what do you do for work?" After that I'll say "I'm a full time student" and they'll immediately switch the conversation from flirtatious to awkward. Is it really that big of a deal that I don't work? I mean, even if I got a job it's not like it's going to help me in the future with what I'll be doing later on. It has been a huge source of anxiety for me with women and I've just stopped talking to them all together because of it. Why is this such a turn off? Should I just get a job even though it's not going to really help me at all (the job I would get, that would help me in my future career, is not offered in my current area).
