This is way too long of a story to tell (last 3 paragraphs say the most), but basically, my best guy friend liked me in high school. We dated a bit and then agreed we should be friends. It really seemed mutual. We remained close friends, I dated other people. He was always there. After I broke up with that guy my friend Alston started acting different around me... like hitting on me. I picked up on it, but knowing his track record with girls I figured he was just flirting to flirt. He kind of flirts with anyone... and he's sort of known to be a bit of a player... but never has had a gf?

Anywho, he tried to kiss me and do some other things and I'm not that kind of girl so I said no because we weren't even dating... and I was never sure if he just wanted to get some action or if he really liked me. It was never clear!

Eventually we sort of got together... stayed up all night talking, cuddling, didn't kiss though... held hands... acted like boyfriend/girlfriend minus the making out... I went back to school and it was really evident that I liked him. He ignored me.

I finally confronted him one day and he said it was all revenge for not liking him in high school and that he was just using me. That we were close in high school but weren't close anymore. Where did everything suddenly change? It was very sudden. He said he was going through a bad time and used me to bring himself up. Those are all words from him, written, on paper.

I was heartbroken. I lost my best friend and had no idea.

I told him we couldn't be friends... I mean, how could we? he used me etc etc. He begged and begged, sent me love songs (?) and then later on said those were songs that he figured made me think of him (?)

We stopped talking for several months, but then I realized I was probably hurting him more by NOT talking to him at all.

We've been "trying" at friendship since then.

When we are together, he's very cold, doesn't have much of a sense of humor and VERY judgmental about my life and what I am doing. He ALWAYS asks about guys... and then gets annoyed.

Last time we hung out he asked me all about the boys in my life. I had just been dumped and I was sad. He was trying to be nice... and then he said, "you're just fixated on relationships because you have nothing better to do." What an awful thing to say... especially when he prodded me for answers when I didn't want to tell him. Then he showed me pictures of girls he wants to hook up with. I told him there was a guy in college that I am still close with and he and I had talked about marriage. My friend Alston just completely flipped out! He said there was no way I could know already.

Anyways, I talked to my friends about it and they all said he sounds jealous. I had no idea what to think. I just thought he was being rude the whole time. He kept ASKING about the guys in my life and then had to shut all of them down. AND he showed me pictures of girls? So weird!

What do you guys think?

I don't feel jealous. My boyfriend has always told me how he'd be jealous and punch any other guy that tried to kiss me. My boyfriend is also very attractive and there have been other girls that like him, but he's veryyy loyal. He introduces me to all of his girl friends and wants us to become good friends. Though when I talk to some of them, it's very obvious they're smitten with my boyfriend, despite the fact that he seems completely oblivious.

I've pointed it out to him that certain girls actually had a huge crush on him (in a teasing playful manner), and he got all blushy, smiley, and said "nooo, they're weird, and anyway I have the best most beautiful girlfriend in the world". Then I'd continue to tease him about what a girl magnet heartbreaker he is. He liked that, and was even more affectionate and sweet than usual afterwards.

It just worries me that I've never felt jealousy, even upon meeting the girls that obviously have feelings for my boyfriend and probably tried to flirt with him at one point. I feel no jealousy when he points out another pretty girl to me either on the street or online. I think jealousy is an ugly emotion, and I'm actually sort of glad that I don't get jealous...but then again, if my love were really real, wouldn't I be a little more selfish about him?

If I'm really honest, I wouldn't even care if he liked another girl...or even kissed her...as long as he liked me best, told me about it and decided he liked my kisses better as a result of doing it. I've told him this, and he told me that even though there are lots of attractive girls in the world, his kisses and flirting would always be reserved for me alone.

We've been together for almost four years now. Is it because he constantly proves that he's utterly loyal...or maybe I'm arrogant or something... that I don't really believe anyone else could be a threat? In fact, I'm sort of always interested in what girls like him as a chance to compete with them, learn new little things that impress him, and keep my charm skills sharp.

The thing is - it makes me feel sort of special when he acts a little jealous, and I wonder if I'm offending him somehow by never acting jealous.

So what do you guys think: do you need to feel a little healthy jealousy to prove that you genuinely love someone? Do boyfriends like it when their girls act a little jealous?
