I'm all for people working out problems and issues together as a couple but "baggage " should be a separate issue that a person should handle by themselves, maybe ask for help but not hiding behind it when issues arrive.

Whether the situation is a lack of trust to lack of social skills because of an ex, I can't see the angle where people are responsible for their lover's ex or past.

Example: A couple are talking , guy tries to keep conversations flowing about things his girlfriend likes , yet she isn't saying much. She had an ex who verbally abused her, Who should shoulder the problems?

Some people argue that both sides inherit both flaws and problems and should solve it together.
