Lol my thoughts on this subject and I realize that they differ from y'alls probably extremely so please don't just go attacking me as some heartless person I am more than likely one of the nicest people you'd meet give the shirt off my back to others, help strangers share all my sh*t etc lol so on to my opinion. I don't think it was so awful, here is my rational I'll break it down into three categories

1.) One of the common reasons I hear that it is so bad was because it was racist. While this is true later on this was not originally the case, at first many people went into indentured servitude to pay off debt (white people) and also several would volunteer pertty much under the fief system (not sure if that is the correct term but they'd work for the landlord in return for the landlords protection from others.) Later it became more efficent monetarily to purchase or take Indian (native American) workers but they died off in hordes some due to disease some to overworking and some to suicide. Then the African slave trade came along and was best because they could and would work.

2.) they say the working conditions were horrendous. While this may be true compared to modern standards we are talking about a different time, and these slaves from africa were more than likely moving away from major political unrest (wars between villages etc.) The work was outdoors in the heat because that was what the economy was based off of. It was hard labour and before labour laws were in place so if this is your argument it would be more about labor laws, not really about slavery in and of itself. Look at how we treated our own children during industrial revolution

3.) Lastly, I here it is wrong to force people to work without pay. But were they really working without pay? The slaves were provided with food, shelter, and clothing, some people who are wokring now do not even receive enough money for these neccessities. Also protection was offered (not from slave masters themselves obviously, but from renegade tribes or random killers, look at the crime rates in low income areas today, murder, theft and the like are rampant many of these crimes they did not have to worry about as slaves.)

Lastly (yes I know I said 3) after emancipation proclomation and civil war many slaves returned to their slave masters for work, I would also put forward the idea that we are all slaves, slaves to money we have to work at the proffered wage or die still so I also don't really think slavery is gone, just taken from individuals and given to our government.

Anyway I'm not suggesting it be brought back just looking for some intellectual feedback so it would be prefferred if you do indeed think it was bad or awful if you could give specefic reasons or rebuttals to my statements XP looking forward to it!

Men can answer as well, however I really want multiple womens opinion on this. AND PLEASE note I am not condoning any actions of violence towards anyone...

I mean nobody hits people for no reason, unless they are just a general a**hole or crazy. I won't take that away from people, there is asshat people who will beat a woman for no reason what so ever, but lets ignore that and go for those that do have a reason... Why is it so wrong to hit a woman?

A.) She attacks you emotionally in areas that she knows your most sensitive - Is it that surprising to get a quick pop if tell me the reason my father killed himself is because of my failure as a son, which is something I confided to you in my weakest moment?

B.) She attacks you - I don't care if it is a slap, fist, or weapon. If you attack a man you get beat like a man... Also if you want equal rights with men then you need to understand equal responsibility for hitting one

C.) You stick with her through thick and thin, devoting yourself to her, she cheats on you and leaves you... Takes the god damn house! Takes the kids! YOU STILL PAY for the house, kids, and everything so she can screw men on your bed... - And you tell me there is no reason.

D.) ETC ETC!

So can anybody explain to me why it is so wrong to hit a woman, or why it is so black and white so it completely ignores the build up and leaves it with a despicable action that people get condemned for.

Please don't post anything about build. Some people are strong, some are weak, it doesn't matter if you are weak or strong. If you are an a**hole you are an a**hole, so if you are going to say "Never hit a woman they are small and delicate or weaker" then you need to realize women should stop working jobs that require labor or mostly mens work and send them back to the kitchen.

A girl on here asked about living in a van, and it got me thinking. What about you? Who has a little Walt Whitman or Jack Kerouac, a little cowboy poet in them, just aching to get out?

When I was a little kid I was always wandering off. As soon as I could walk, I'd just bail on the day at the park and walk to my grandparents' house, twenty blocks. Or I'd wander out of the yard and end up down by the river with my dog, miles away. At age two, I was a rambling man.

Right after high school I began the long series of random scenery changes that has been my adult life. I've lived mostly in the eastern part of the country, but traveled as far as San Francisco - I lived in Denver for seven years and loved it. The rest of the time I wandered between upstate New York and Florida, with stops in between.

Last year I toured most of the summer on my motorcycle. I've wintered over with family in a poorer Red State, and now I want to run screaming for anywhere Elsewhere. Get away from overcast and poverty and submission to the Man.

It's spring again, and I'm thinking of going completely off the grid. No more years-long hitches in an apartment or a house somewhere, with a job at some corporate cube farm. Living in parks and wandering trails all over the country, setting down roots on paper in a new state, but spending all of my time wandering, without four walls to pen me in.

I'll probably use a car, truck, or motorcycle to get around, and camp in a hammock. Whatever is the least inhibiting, easiest affordable, and most nontraditional way possible. Work online or as a computer repairman, or do labor and office temp jobs when they come my way. Take photos of rock climbers and music festivals and peddle them online.

Eventually I know I'll have to get an RV or something for a base camp. But why not live like I'm a retired person already. There's nothing but debt and drudgery inside the box. I want to stay out of it. I'm used to it now.
