I am a soldier. I fought in the middle east for my country. I don't know the exact count, but I know I have killed at least 4 men. I know because I looked them in the face when I did it. I never committed any cruel acts of war. I do not regret killing those enemies either. Since I got back, all I've been thinking about is these sins. Do soldiers have atone for their sins sooner or later, even if they were following orders? I don't regret defending my country, but I worry I may have damned my soul. This has really been chewing me up inside If you aren't religious, pretend you are or don't answer at all please.

Today many people call themselves religious, whether it be Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist etc...

But is it just me, or is claiming yourself as one of these religions a total hypocrisy?

People claim to be these religions, yet when it comes down to the scriptures people are making a complete mockery of them.

Especially in America, where I live, you have all these people claiming to be "good Christian people". I mean sure you may go to church and not be a terrible sinner- but everything about the american lifestyle is contradictory to Christianity. People go out and buy tons of clothes they don't need, big cars that cost and arm and a leg, and the envy that people have towards others.

We also claim to be a "Christian" nation- yet we support torture, the death penalty, and bail outs of fat cat corporate exec's who rape the world- all for their money. People walk past homeless people every day- and sure some will give them change, but does that really help? is that really generous? or are people trying to make themselves not feel guilty because they know they can actually do something?

You see followers of Islam skewing the scriptures and brain washing people into performing acts of terrorism, manipulating uneducated people in their home lands. Starting "Holy wars" with other nations because they offend their religion... etc...

I am not religious at all, but I have read scriptures and this is going on everywhere! I really don't mind religious people- religion is a good moral judge of character, but it seems like today that morality has been dismembered and raped into fitting in with what is current and relative to your situation.

How can you claim to be a believer in a religion when you only follow the rules you want?

The world is a disgusting place, and people today are just making it more disgusting by being selfish, greedy, and a hateful place to live.

To summarize- Do you think religion in the modern day has been altered to fit the shape of what people want it to be?

Here are the battles.

Sexism. - Men vs women, we need each other to survive but there can be a lot of conflict between us. You know the history.

Racism. - Remember when there used to be wars just to rule the world? You're the better side, just 'cause. If you won I guess you we're the stronger side (in what ever made you win). So much fighting has been done over this.

Religious. - No one can know for sure, so there are arguments. Down to the very morals we should have. It can control people or free them, a very strong force. It's the motivator for nearly all, if not all, terrorism.

Political. - Originating from social acts themselves. It can define who we are and makes the world go round. It can divide countries and overthrow kings and dictators. It provides supreme control, if you break the law often you'll probably get punished.
