This morning, my group was doing community outreach at special needs clinic. We were having a conversation about this lab assistant at university who is a bit slow *in certain areas* but he has his moments which will surprise you from time to time. We were talking about how some lecturers were communicating with him in a very patronizing manner. And we finally arrived at this topic *question asked above*. Discussion went hot and heavy, feelings were hurt. total craziness. *I know that people are real touchy and sensitive about political correctness nowadays, but when I use the term "special needs" I also include disabled persons and individuals with various deficiencies/disabilities either physical, mental or both.* I put forward the point of integrating more people into the working force equals more productivity however special needs person would need help in certain areas (easy examples: stairs vs wheel chair ramp: so you gotta design the buildings to make special needs/disabled persons accessible, warning signs with sign language and audio: for deaf and mute people etc). I just want to know what other people think about this. What would be the pros and cons?
