I have this guy friend and we've been close/best friends for 3 years. Our friendship has been absolutely platonic but recently, I'm starting to see a few changes. For example, first off, we were talking about relationships one day and out of the blue he said, "Since we're all being honest here, let me just say that I would date you and you're one of the few girls in my life that I actually care for." He also told me that we would've been a couple long ago if we weren't from different religions since he feels that this would hinder our relationship in the future.

Secondly, we were talking one day and all of a sudden, he decided to poke my cheek. I would've found this to be normal if it weren't for the fact that 2 years ago, when I playfully slapped his cheek, he had told me not to do it or else people would think we're dating.

2 days ago, I had fallen ill and posted a picture on my private Instagram account with the caption: "food poisoning and fever sucks." Later, he commented, "Take care. GWS." and of course I replied with "Thanks friend :-)". However, he replied with, "Got your back bae" which kind of shocked me because he'd never call me that and neither did I to him during these 3 years. I always thought guys said that only to someone they like so I was confused.

However the weirdest reaction I'd gotten from him lately was when I tweeted saying I needed to find someone to watch Zootopia with me. He had replied on twitter saying, "Let's go." I asked him for the date, and our friend who follows us both on twitter, joined in the convo and asked if he could tag along. For some weird reason, my guy friend didn't acknowledge him. He proceeded to tell me we could go on the weekend without mentioning our friend in his tweet and did not respond to him at all. I got really confused because I wanted our friend to come, but I didn't know what was my guy friend's motive. Was it an outing as friends? A date?

He says he can't continue to be my friend because he doesn't think the friendship can stay platonic. This was never an issue until now, we were friends for 5 months and now he's cutting me out because of this.
