Search Results: how to know if hes just infatuated

I got really close to one of my guy friends and along the way realized I genuinely cared about him as something more than a friend. He also did certain things that made it seem like he felt the same way. I eventually told him how I felt and he seemed surprised I felt that way, kept coming up with explanations or excuses for how it wasn't possible I felt that way about him- tried to tell me I was just infatuated with him and get this- even said I didn't know how I felt.

After hurting me like this several times, I finally gave up and started to move on. As soon as I started hanging out with another guy more than him, he came back, apologized for pushing me away, and said it took losing me for him to realize just how much I meant to him. I know he struggles with trusting people, etc but I just don't know if I can go back and start something with him knowing he rejected me several times and said hurtful things each time.. I've already forgiven him, but it's hard to forget and I'm afraid of getting hurt by him again.

So what about you all? How would you feel about a person that rejects you at first and then claims it was a mistake when he sees you are starting to move on?

He used to say he thought girls from my culture were so beautiful and how much respect he had for girls like me and then the more we got to know each other I noticed he started acting different. He would stare at me when he thought I wasn't looking, go out of his way to spend time with me, find reasons to get close (wanted to teach me how to dance), and most of all- he started acting nervous and fidgety around me, not at all like how he behaves around other girls.

Thinking he might like me, I ended up telling him I liked him and he rejected me in a really rude way- said he thought I was great, but wasn't attracted to me and claimed I didn't really like him since he was like the only guy I really talked to- also tried to convince me I was just infatuated with him... He also said negative things about my culture- things like, he thinks it's stupid how girls in my culture usually always end up marrying inside the culture, etc.

Does he really have no feelings for me, or is he just saying all this and being rude because he knows nothing could come of an "us"? Please help, I'm so confused. I would prefer actual answers over poll responses, but either is fine at this point. Thanks in advance!
