Background: Had an emotional affair with a guy from work about a year ago. There was kissing, some touching hugging & a lot of talking, but never sex. We mutually ended it because even though we truly cared about each other & felt like we were falling in love, we were both in other relationships and the guilt got to us.

Now: We still work together. We have managed to make it through a very hard year of maintaining a working relationship and staying friends. I have fought the strong feelings I still have for him but would never want to ever hurt him. We have become really good friends & can talk about just about anything. We laugh, we talk and just get along amazingly well. We talk about our relationships & rely on each other for advice. I don't honestly know if he realizes the depths of feelings I still have for him. But, he is a good guy & has been nothing but wonderful in trying to work through a bad situation.

There is ONE thing that bothers me. At work, he will sometimes be talking to his girlfriend on the phone & its a small office so I can't help but hear. Its hard to listen to him talking to her! Also, recently he has been getting calls from other people at work because he & his girlfriend had a baby recently (unplanned) & I hear him say stuff like, "She was a champ" (re: labor) or "She was all baby & she has lost all the weight & looks great".

Question: Does he not realize at all how much this hurts for me to hear? Is he assuming I am fine & am over him because we are friends? Is there any chance he is saying these things to try to make me jealous or is he just clueless? Guys, help me understand what he is thinking. I would NEVER brag about my other relationship in front of him. He will call to say things like, "Oh, do you want me to take off Tuesday, so I can go w/you to the doctor?" Prior to our relationship, he NEVER called her. I didn't even know he had a gf! Why is he suddenly calling her? I feel like he is purposely trying to show me what a great guy he is. Sometimes I feel like he is TRYING to make me jealous or something. But maybe he is completely unaware. Thanks for any thoughts on this!

I met a man online about 6 months ago. I knew I would want to become more than friends but agreed to be only friends which worked for a while. We both developed feelings for each other. He drove from WI to visit me in VA this summer. The first night nothing happened but the feelings were there.The 2nd &3rd night we spend cuddling and kissing. We talked about everything from the very start & both agreed that we were becoming more than friends. Before he left in July I told him that I loved him when we hugged & kissed goodbye. He did not respond in kind but I accepted that. We continued to talk & his indecisiveness nearly drove me away from him. I know that I love him in every way!

Despite my best efforts to protect my heart I have remained in this relationship. We determined that we do have a "relationship"( His words not mine) I have asked him how can you have a relationship without a committment? He has since told me several times that he "DOES" love me that he "DOES NOT" want anyonelse. He knows we share something very rare- we have become nearly best friends, talk about everything, yet so attracted to each other & very much in love.

I could not wait to see him again so I flew up to WI over the Labor Day wknd. We still have not have intercourse but we have come close. I have made him aware that I want to marry him someday. In the beginning he used to tell me he thought I had an agenda which offended me. Sure I wanted that back them as well but I made me sound calculating and manipulative. I have always been honest with my feelings for him.

The trip was beautiful & we did grow closer. He was very shy regarding PDA but he held me close wherever we went & kissed me in every romantic place we visited, the Botanic Gardens, the zoo, Aquarium:)- I spent the trip on cloud nine. We ate in my fav restaurant. He held me close and squeezed me every night . Leaving him at the airport I naturally told him I love him and he responded " I love you"! He held me as if he didn't want to let me go. I cried so much before my plane every took off. He told me to call when I got to the next airport & every time he asked me a million ?'s I could tell he missed me too.

Since I have been home he still seems to miss me but two nights ago his uncertainly returned. He stated that he wasn't ready to committ? I was astonished & crying but attempted to supress my tears. I bit my lip until he mentioned that I was not what he orginally asked for in his profile. Then I cried aloud , I told him that I would never meet that description & we didn't have a chance. He denied it but I kept up a strong argument & he began to cry too. I love him & remain patient he has "never" had a relationship. We are both close to 40 y/o! I don't play games & feel he is sincere. He said that he needed more time, that he doesn't want to let me go but can't honestly commit to me yet. He says that he believes we can be together for life but he has to be sure. Just can't understand

Recently my boyfriend has had some amount of upheaval in his life with having to move and find a new job. We used to live in the same apartment complex, now he is staying with his family, still not far away, yet without a place to really call his own.

Before all this, it was rare that we spent a night away from each other. We've almost been together 10 months. I knew that there would be an adjustment, but I'm seeing a change in his behavior that makes me worry.

He is working long hours, doing hard labor, I know that. But he used to always come home, or at least, call to wish me goodnight. Now, despite us having discussed him coming over, often I will not hear from him. I will wait up, unable to sleep, worried that something is wrong, and will never hear from him. He will stand me up. I have talked to him about it, and he is sorry and doesn't mean for it to happen. He just falls asleep at his sister's almost as soon as he gets home from work. According to him.

I trust him completely, however, every man I've ever said I love you to has cheated on me. While I know my boyfriend loves me and I do not doubt his fidelity, his behavior puts me in a frame of mind that I do not want to be in. I have told him this. He always is sorry but the behavior does not change. I've been understanding. I know he is working hard, I know that he is under a great deal of stress.

Am I asking too much to just want a phone call telling me, "hey baby, I'm really tired and I'm not coming tonight." or any communication of any kind?

I want us to work out. I love him and I know he loves me. I don't want this to come between us. Its just so hard to think in my head when he says, "I'll see you tonight." that I can't count on that. That some days I won't hear from him at all.

Guys and girls, should I adapt, cut him some slack, and lower my expectations? Or should I put my foot down and tell him that I need him to try harder to communicate with me? If I put my foot down, how far do I go? He always is sorry, but the behavior doesn't change. What consequence should there be? I won't break up with him over something like this and I don't use sex as a weapon so are not things I'm considering.

I don't need him to necessarily be there. I just need him to follow up if he says he is going to be. Please help!
