I am black. Okay. My mom is sort of racist and a womanist (feminism for black women). She doesn't want me to date anyone that is white, Hispanic, or Asian. She also doesn't want me to date black guys because she says they have nothing going for themselves. That leaves me literally NO ONE to date. I feel like she wants me to be gay.

I asked my cousin and her boyfriend why a Mexican boy was at the Baptist Student Union meeting because I thought that most Mexicans are Catholic. It wasn't that I minded him being there. I don't have anything against Mexicans, and I obviously wouldn't want to discourage anyone from coming to here a sermon. I don't even really like that churches tend to be mostly one race because it sometimes seems like some people wouldn't be comfortable in a certain church. (The Baptist Student Union has black, white, and Asian people but only that one Mexican guy.) It's just that I thought it was strange because I've only ever seen one Hispanic boy at a Baptist church. My cousin's boyfriend seemed surprised and said, "That is bigoted." He was a little bit insulted because the Mexican guy is his friend. He also said that his friend's family is Catholic, but the boy himself is "just whatever." I don't mean to be prejudiced, but I suppose everyone is in one way or another. Do you think I'm a terrible bigot and don't even know it? Also, am I a hypocrite for saying that I wish everyone could be comfortable at church and then asking why he was at the BSU meeting?

It seems racial tensions in the country are never going away because of the history between blacks and whites. I notice white people never get as upset with Asians or Latinos about race related issues as they do black people. I hear white people complain all the time about black history month but don't complain about Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept 15-Oct 15) or Asian History Month in May. Why do they always get mad about Black History Month which is going on now? It seems out of the 3 races white and black people hate each other the most overall. Asians seem left out of racial politics, but they seem to side more with white people. Latino's although not a race can go either way when racial tensions are high. Puerto Ricans and Latinos of African decent seem to fall more on the black side and the white Latino's like Cubans and Mexicans tend to agree more with white people. Then you have Arabs who yes are hated but not to the extent black people are it seems.

It seems in general white and black people don't like each other at all, and its always a big deal when those two groups get together interacially. No one really throws a fit if your white son brings home an Asian or Latina girl or a girl of a different race, but if he brought home a black girl. Shit would hit the fan. Same with white girls bring home black guys.

Personally I think black and white people should leave the other alone and segregate themselves. Considering history, it seems like more than half of each ethnic group of Native Americans, Mexicans and other Hispanics, Asians, Arabs, African Americans, and biracial individuals may feel this way. From a social viewpoint as far as it relates to race relations, do you think that white people are hard to coexist with? If so, why?
