"slave mentality" = a mentality that describes a person that is in a state of dependency upon the "master" for the most basic of requirements for support for a basic lifestyle, resulting in a lack of independence, drive, and/or ambition in the said person with this mentality.

This is due to the socialization instilled during the slave/master relationship.

This is usually paired with an inferiority complex towards those who resemble the "master" in appearance and/or socio-economic stature.

Through my research, this is how I describe the "slave mentality" using my own words.

As a black American male, it's simply factual to say that black Americans have, on average since emancipation, have under-achieved socio-economically, compared to every other non-white race/ethnic group in the USA,

especially when you consider those immigrants that emigrated here and achieved a higher standard of living in their families, than the average black American,

and those immigrants may have only been in the USA for only 1-2 generations, compared to black Americans since emancipation have had at least 4 full generations as non-slaves.

To stay on topic, I'm ONLY referring to the aspect of "slave mentality" in this question (as in this topic separate of any type of ethnic or racial discrimination).

Do you feel that the slave mentality mentioned above, is 100% real and relevant today in black Americans, as well as others of African slave ancestry, in terms of being a factor (not total "blame") to this under-achievement,

or,

do you feel that the slave mentality is more of a victimization excuse, than an explanation, for this "under-achievement" of my ethnic group in the USA (because slavery ended almost 1.5 centuries ago and no living black American has ever been a slave)?

...could, or have, considered racially prejudice or racist based on your friend's words, actions, body language, behavior, etc towards a particular ethnic group (including their own ethnic group)?
