Search Results: how long to wait before asking out

I've known this girl for 2 years since freshman period. After having gone out together 3 times previously, I decided to stop using the word "going out" and ask her on a "date" this time.

Unfortunately the conversation tensed up when I used that word, and she waited very long before giving a reply. The conversation:

Her: "What would we be doing? I don't know if we have anything to do tgt haha"

Me: "What'd you think haha? Going out someplace tgt and having dinner and stuff!"

Her: "When you asked me, I thought about maybe playing Magic lol." (card game. I played that once)

Me: "I like playing that, but .. I'm not sure if you understood I'm asking you out? :)"

Her: "Cause I can't think of what to do haha"

Her: "Sort of. I think my understanding of a date is 2 people going out tgt alone."

Her: "Let's just say I take a very long time to know a person. Even best friends"

At this point I wonder if she couldn't commit because she's busy this period, or she was still undecided, so I tried to lighten things up.

Me: "I'm not sure where you're coming from, but let's just have a fun day out anyway"

Her: "Oh yay! Things are much easier when they're clear cut. I like having fun tgt!"

The conversation then moved to us egging each other to try out each others' hobbies so that we'd have something to do tgt next time out.

I am still completely lost as to what she was thinking when she was hesitating. Is she afraid of commitment, or ... was she trying to let me down while keeping our friendship?
