So my Cousin introduced me to his MMA class. My cousin is a career cage fighter and has just earned his pro card.

This school also has legit fighters and teachers that have extensive records with Martial Arts, one guy we work with is a brown belt so far in BJJ, and the owner is an old guy who spent his whole life around Martial arts, learning various styles such as BJJ, Boxing, Wrestling, Karate and even Aikido. Every Sunday we would have teachers and practitioners from other schools come and teach us new things.

The school is a Mixed Martial Arts school (MMA), its primary (but not limited to) styles are Kryokushu Karate and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), but it also teaches a bit of Boxing, Wrestling, Muay Thai and even a little bit of Aikido. The teachers take the most useful aspects (and ditch the useless) of different styles and combine it all in this class.

This schools does have a belt ranking system. I thought it was very odd that an MMA school had belt ranks, but I like the idea of having them displayed on my wall. The owner told me that it will take up to 10 years to reach black belt, which I'm willing to dedicate myself to.

The owner is not too worried about fees, so far my cousin and the owner has given me some lessons himself and I haven't payed a dime yet. I actually feel a bit guilty getting free lessons from people who payed so much money to learn this stuff.

This class is being taken in the owner's home garage, not in an actual Dojo. It has all the nessesary equipment, matted floors, matted walls, punching bag, heavy bag, speed bag, etc. It's in a secluded area and doesn't have a lot of members. This is where some people might become a bit skeptical, but all Martial Arts started this way.

Which one will be better for fighting (MMA) or (Mauy Thai & Wrestling).

Truth I was bullied ruthlessly in grade school and some in middle/HS school. 5th grade was by far the worst year of my life. Sometimes I still feel anger towards my parents for not pulling me out that school. They supported me, told me to fight back (I did twice) but deep down they saw that as a “rite of passage”. My mom especially believed that bullshit.

I took up wrestling and distance running in middle/HS school. I was actually pretty good at both sports. I became a mma fighter later (retired now). That earned me a lot of respect.

But there have been a few instances as an adult where I have been asked if I was bullied when I was younger. This was out of nowhere and was extremely insulting. It’s telling me that my body language and mannerisms indicate passivity and fear. I’m a athletic guy by the way.

I had similar assumptions about other people but I never ever asked them that unless they brought up the experience first.

What’s the best comeback to that question? My roommate who I 100% get along with once asked me that. It made me want to punch him in the face.
