Let's say you are given a time machine. However, this time machine is set for the year 2015, and there is nothing you can do to change it. You emerge from the time machine in 2015 and find the country in complete disarray! Almost post-apocalyptic. You approach one person and ask "how did this happen?" And they tell you of one very specific event that occurred that started a chain reaction that caused this problem. That event was: a military officer in Afghanistan accidentally shot a civilian.

Almost every single pundit, professional, and politician in America knows that this was the cause, and they all agree that if it had not occurred, America would be flourishing! However, there are some pundits that blame Obama, and a good 70% of the American populace that believe them.

Anyway, you are suddenly zipped back to the present to find Barrack Obama (and a host of secret service) waiting for you. The meter on your time machine has a busted "1", so they can not tell if you went to 2005 or 2015. They ask you what you saw. You have the opportunity to absolve Obama of this problem by telling him what you saw and setting this country on track, or you can say you went to 2005 and saw nothing. What do you do?

I've noticed this a LOT in the United States. Even around here where most think this is a liberal website I find many who think that liberal is a dirty word and a bad thing. Now, I never consider myself one thing or another. I definitely have liberal views, but there are conservative views I have too. So I seem to be one or the other depending on the issue. But I don't think either is a bad thing or a bad ideology. Hell, liberals believe in liberalism (obviously), and for those of you that are not in the know, liberalism is essentially

"a broad political ideology or worldview founded on the ideas of liberty and equality"

And

" Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but generally liberals support ideas such as capitalism (either regulated or not), constitutionalism, liberal democracy, free press, free and fair elections, human rights and the free exercise of religion."

What sounds bad about that at all to you? I never saw anything bad about that nor did I see anything bad about conservatism at all points. Sure if the tradition is harmful to a person, that is a problem, but if it's something good, sure, keep it going. And even conservatives are OK with change, as long as it's slow change. And that can be good too.

So I just don't get they hate for "liberals" or "liberalism" when the very thing liberals, true liberals, stand for and the very definition of liberalism is wholly American. The very principles our Founding Fathers had was very liberal. Even for our time it seems.

Now I'm sure people will bring up fascists who CLAIMED they were liberals or claimed they were socialists (which is considered a liberal stance), or whatnot, but just cause someone CLAIMS to be something doesn't mean they are that. Haven't you heard the phrase "actions speak louder than words?" And their actions don't change the definition of the word Liberal, it just shows them for what they really are.

I just don't get this hate against liberals and liberalism. It's not about giving free hand outs to people. It's not about everyone getting what other people earned, it's about fairness and making sure everyone as equal opportunity to succeed, that one group isn't lording everything over the other.

Where's the problem? Do you think people don't understand what liberals truly are?

Btw, a good read is a book called "Death of the Liberal Class." It can educate you in how liberal has been demonized over, hell, a century.

The Obama Administration seems to believe that affordable health care is a right that should be extended to all Americans regardless of their socio-economic status and the way I read it, many or perhaps even most of the Republicans, Conservatives and Far Righties think health care is a privilege that only those who have the financial means should be able to access.

The 1% have wealth because they understand how markets work, i.e. supply and demand. Anytime that you make more money available for something with a fixed supply, you get higher costs for it. They (the 1%) might be generally against government sponsored health care payments, because they know that unlimited federal funds targeted toward a commercial medical industry, will increase costs, not decrease them.
