Guy in question is a high-functioning aspie.

I know he is fidgety in nature (i. e twiddling fingers) but it becomes heightened when in my presence (i. e. he makes exaggerated movements and stops himself if someone comes around).

He would always offer to help me, very accommodating, tries to hang out with me alone (i. e. find chance to work together since we are project mates) . Are aspergers' often very nice by nature?

He initiated touch with me by resting his forearm on my thigh when reading stuff off my computer that was in front of me - he was seated next to me.

Often invade my personal space by leaning in and when i moved away a bit to see if he follows, he inched a bit closer as well.

I read that Aspies don't laugh a lot but he is so smiley around me (the little kid when he is showered with candy type of smile. He laughts at a lot of things I say even though they were just normal work stuff/not meant to be funny?

He finds excuses to call me too and seems overly concerned about my opinion of him? Has an eager to please streak? He would often apologise if he thinks he let me down in some way, though they are not the least bit serious?

He moved to another town 4 years ago, still comes to visit his family every now and than.

I recently got single, we shortly dated in college and I like him and would like to go out with him.

last week he was visiting his parents (saw it from his Instagram) but I wasn’t in town. I wrote him “let’s go for a drink next time you’re here”.
he answered “I’d love to, will try to get rid of my little sister next time 😛”

but than didn't try to chat any further...

3 years ago we both lived in NY and we had a short affair. He was about to move to Chicago so it was clear to both it didn’t have a future. I didn’t want to do long distance. Still he wrote to me a few times afterwards, telling me that it was too bad we didn’t live closer and that sex was so good (it was). In the meanwhile we both had other relationships which ended.

We kept in touch over social media and lately, the past year, he started liking every picture I posted on Instagram etc. last year he still had a girlfriend, they broke up some 6 months ago.

I went to chicago last month and wrote to him to ask if he had any tips on what to visit. He told me unfortunately that week he would have been in California, that it was sad because he would have loved to see me again, but he proposed I stay at his apartment, as it was empty. I thanked him but didn’t accept because I had already booked the hotel and it wasn’t refundable.

Last week he posted an Instagram story from New Jersey for work, a place some 2 hours from ny. I was in Miami for work those days, but I know he goes to New Jersey every now and than and I’d be interested in seeing him again and I wrote to him “next time you got o nj you should stop by say hi in New York”.

He answered he’d love to, and that next time he will try to take a few days off and stop in New York, but than he also didn’t try to chat longer etc.

On the basis of the experiences I had these past years, i think we would be a good match and I’d be up to give it a try even if it’s long distance. But I don’t understand if he’s interested at all, or if he replied like that just out of politeness and he’s not interested, even in stopping by just for sex (because I know that if he did stop by for sex it would be easy to convince him to try see if we can make it work, as the sex was real real good, we really have a good chemistry, and he maybe just needs to be remembered about that).
