With teenagers in the modern world (age 13 to 17-18), they always have, and currently do, fall into the mantra of:

"accountability and responsibility like an adult, treatment like a child",

which IMO is a fallacy that explains why so many teens feel ignored and slighted, leading to rebellion (like any group of people have done during the history of mankind).

Over and over again throughout my very short adult lifetime of 9 years, I see this mantra proving itself as a trend over and over again.

Adults (parents, school faculty, law enforcement, everyday citizens) treat teenagers in the above bracket the same way they do to youth-age boys and girls...

...

...

...and they wonder why teens don't act more "mature ". They're talked to, treated, and handled socially by adults like youth children so how can these adults expect these teens to react in a non childlike way? You reap what you sow.

The attitude towards teens of "you're a child, what the hell can YOU know; know your place as a child and I'M the adult" is quite prevalent nowadays.

Lastly, these adults for some reason find it demeaning in some way (IMO out of insecurity) to "be the bigger person" and initiate the proverbial olive branch of respect first to teens.

Instead, these adults tend to feel that regardless of their treatment to teens, that they should ALWAYS be respect no matter what...even if these adults don't give the respect back!

That being said, do you feel that teenagers today should be given more respect by default until their response / behavior proves it should be revoked...

...or do you feel that teenagers should "know their place" and be treated more like children by adults by default?
