My friend is an absolute animal lover through and through and objects to buying leather. The two of us were recently thrifting when I found a leather skirt and she vehemently objected to me buying it. As a general rule, I never buy new leather and I simply don't wear fur at all, but my point to her about the skirt was that by buying used, I couldn't be contributing to a demand for leather, animal cruelty, or the destruction of the environment, as this particular sale was the equivalent to me buying someone's trash which in actuality helps prevent the skirt from ending up in a landfill and contributing to the further destruction of our planet.

So do you think buying used leather is 'just as bad' as buying new leather or am I in the right in that this is actually helping, rather then further hurting the environment?
