I was just curious about what kind of lifestyle wrt relationship (s) you'd most want to have over the course of your life. I've thought of 5 options.

1. +20 years. A lifelong monogamous relationship (to the right person obviously). This does not necessarily mean marriage or kids (though it can if you want it to). The initial excitement won't be there after 20 years obviously and you will have arguments that you will have to get past. But this provides the most amount of support and emotional connection to each other. If you get sick or injured, the other will stay with you (and you will have to do the same). You will be committed to making it work as will the other person. Both of you will want to make the other happy.

2. 5-15 years. You will have a very long term relationship but will separate after a while. I can only imagine people picking this because it'll allow them to raise kids and then leave each other for something else. This seems a weird option but it does happen a lot so I included it.

3. 6 mnths-2 years. Serial monogamy. You have relationships for that emotional high of love/infatuation. It won't be any kind of life partner though. If you move/become pregnant/have an accident, the other person won't stay with you. You will break up when serious issues arise or when the magic fades.

4. <2 months. Purely sex. No emotional connection or long term commitment/support. You get lots of sexual partners but no serious relationships and you will have to chase/seduce every partner. If you lose money or become less attractive, the others won't stick around. You get excitement and freedom but less stability.

5. No relationship at all. (There'll be a few who'll pick this).

Tl;dr: if you had to choose, what lifestyle would you most want to have wrt relationships. The more short term it is, the more excitement but less stability. The more long term it is, the more stability and support but your options will be restricted a little more.

Here's the scenario:
Sally is an attractive 24 year old woman. She has had 8 sexual partners and is completely free of stds. Her first partner was her childhood sweetheart. They dated for a year before the relationship became sexual. Unfortunately a few months after the relationship became sexual, her "sweetheart" cheated on her. Sally was devastated and ended up having 2 drunken one night stands with guys she met at the club. She then decided that she doesn't want any more one night stands, but she also isn't ready for a relationship. Her next 5 partners were friends with benefits type relationships that lasted 1-3 months each. Then after partner number 8 Sally was starting to want to settle down and this is when met a guy named Bob. Bob is the type of guy Sally could see herself getting married to and as a result she wants to take it slow. She doesn't want to "put out" too soon and risk losing him.

Which guy would you rather be if given the choice?

Guy A: You are guy #8, she doesn't want anything more than friends with benefits with you. She is willing to have sex with you as soon as you get tested. She is not expecting anything from you, nor is she expecting this "relationship" to be permanent. Techically you could try to pursue a serious relationship with her if you want one but she is not expecting it. There are no strings attached.

OR

Guy B:You are Bob. At this point, Sally is tired of casual sex and now desires something serious. She claims to see something special in you that she didn't see in the other guys and as a result she wants to hold off on sex for a couple of months (3-4) so that you can build an emotional connection. She is hoping that you will be the one to propose to her and walk her down the isle. She isn't demanding this obviously but she is kinda hoping/expecting that you will be her last. So technically there are strings attached in this case.

OR

Guy C: You have no interest in Sally on any level.

Please explain.

For example, need for love, friendship, sexual intimacy, human connection. Controlling your level of fear, remorse or anger.

I'm sure most people will say they are very good, but realistically not that many people can truly control their emotions and urges.

Not to be rude, but some people are simply not sexually attractive. Assuming the emotional connection is amazing, and the two people get along great, can a relationship work without sexual attraction (assuming it's monogamous)?
